The film was written by Niranjan Iyengar and Karan Johar and produced by Yash Johar and Karan Johar under the Dharma Productions banner. The music of the film was composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, with lyrics written by Javed Akhtar.
The film features, Jaya Bachchan as Jennifer "Jenny" Kapur, Shahrukh Khan as Aman Mathur, Saif Ali Khan as Rohit Patel, and Preity Zinta as Naina Catherine Kapur. It also features Lilette Dubey, Reema Lagoo, Sushma Seth and Delnaaz Paul in supporting roles. The film narrates the story of a pessimistic uptight student, Naina Kapur, who falls in love with her neighbour, Aman Mathur, a terminally ill patient who tries to play matchmaker for Naina and her friend, Rohit Patel.
Kal Ho Naa Ho was promoted with the tag-line - A Story Of A Lifetime.... In A Heartbeat. Made on a budget of ₹280 million, Kal Ho Naa Ho released on 28 November 2003 to positive critical reviews. Additionally, it was screened at the Valenciennes, Era New Horizons, Marrakech International and Helsinki Film Festival.
Kal Ho Naa Ho was declared a "Hit" in India and an "All Time Blockbuster" in overseas by Box Office India. The film was a commercial success and emerged as the second highest grossing film domestically, and the highest grossing film in overseas and worldwide that year. When adjusted for inflation, its total nett gross in India is ₹1.21 billion (US$18 million).
The following year, Kal Ho Naa Ho won two National Film Awards and eight Filmfare Awards.
The film was paid homage by the German Embassy in India by releasing a short 8 minute video named Lebe jetzt.
The film was remade in Telugu as Chakram.
Synopsis
Naina Catherine Kapur (Preity Zinta) is a bespectacled 23-year-old Punjabi MBA student who is quite pessimistic and cynical towards her life and relationships. The movie opens up to Naina visiting Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York City. She relates how whenever she misses her father, she comes to the park. Upon returning home, we see Jenny (Jaya Bachchan), Naina's widowed mother who is on the phone discussing a loan extension for their centrally situated restaurant which isn't doing so well. Upon Naina's father's passing, all the house's responsibilities have fallen on her. Naina begins looking through the mail to find another private and confidential letter addressed to her mother, among many others she periodically receives. She also finds a letter from a Punjabi matrimonial service, Kunwari Kudi (meaning: Single Girl) that her grandmother and her aunts have enlisted in hopes of marrying off Naina to a Sikh sardar man. Naina's grandmother Lajjo (Sushma Seth), and Naina's aunts Kammo (Shoma Anand) and Vimmo (Kamini Khanna) are religious aspiring musicians who often perform for their neighbor, Chadda (Dara Singh) and to the horror and inconvenience of many of their other neighbors. There are also Naina's younger siblings in the home, including Shiv (Athit Naik), Naina's disabled biological brother and Gia (Jhanak Shukla), Naina's adoptive sister. There is much tension in the Kapur household as Lajjo is resentful towards Gia and Jenny as she believes Jenny's decision to adopt Gia is what led to her husband's suicide and the failing financial condition of their family, thus causing her to be affectionate with Naina and Shiv, while being cold to Gia. She thinks that Gia is the main problem in the house. She believes that the problems in the house started after Gia is adopted. There is also much religious tension in the house as Jenny practices Christianity while Lajjo practices Sikhism.Actors

Delhi Safari is the story of a journey undertaken by a leopard cub, his mother, a monkey, a bear and a parrot when the forest they live in is on the verge of destruction. Builders have encroached upon their forest and the animals decide to go to Delhi and protest in front of the parliament and ask the parliament some very simple yet pertinent questions they were – why has man become the most dangerous animal? Doesn't man understand that if the forests and the animals don't co-exist with humans, the balance of the ecosystem will be endangered? The film starts with Yuvraj 'Yuvi' saying that he lost his father Sultan (Sunil Shetty) in the morning,but doesn't want to lose his home in any cost. The film carries a flashback of the morning with Yuvi and Sultan playing in the forest while his mother, Begum (Urmila Matondkar) enters. The two say something that Begum gets angry and goes. Soon, Begum forgives Sultan and Yuvraj. However, while coming back, a whole pack of bulldozers come. Begum manages to escape, but Yuvi and Sultan are trapped. In a bid to save Yuvi, Sultan catches Yuvi in his mouth and tosses him to Begum. However, he himself is killed by a human wielding a shotgun, making the whole forest a large enemy of the humans. A talk happens of Bajrangi, a monkey (Govinda), saying that he would beat out the wits of those men, and asks whether anyone knows anyone who knows language of humans. A white bird pipes up, saying he knows someone. Yuvi meets the white bird the next day, and asks who is the one he said about. The white bird says he is Alex (Akshaye Khanna), who lives with a director Vikram. Bajrangi, Bagga the bear (Boman Irani), Yuvi go and kidnap the parrot and convince him to go to Delhi with them to talk to the parliament. After a few good and bad experiences Begum tells that no one is going to Delhi after listening to a tiger's story as soon after she sees Sultan and proceeds to Delhi. They finally reach Delhi and tell their message. In the last scene it is shown the jungle is saved and all are happy.

Karan (Saif Ali Khan) is a cartoonist and a self-styled ladies' man. His daily comic, named "Hum Tum," explores the battle of stereotypical male/female behavior. On a plane from Delhi to New York, he meets Rhea (Rani Mukerji) who doesn't seem to be interested in him. His feeble attempts at flirting go nowhere, but when they have a stop-over in Amsterdam, she agrees to explore the city with him. Yashvardhan "Yash" Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan) is a rich businessman, living in India with his wife Nandini (Jaya Bachchan) and two sons Rahul and Rohan. Rahul is the elder son and was adopted by Yash and Nandini at birth; this is known to everyone in the Raichand household, except Rohan. When grown up, Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) comes across the vivacious Punjabi-speaking Anjali Sharma (Kajol), and they eventually fall in love; but their love is forbidden, because Anjali is from a working-class background. Yash and Nandini soon send Rohan to a Boarding School, which all the males in their family have attended. Yash announces his desire for Rahul to marry Naina (Rani Mukherji); but Naina learns that Rahul is in love with Anjali, and encourages him to pursue her. When Yash comes to know of this, he is enraged, and Rahul promises not to marry Anjali. En route to tell her of his promise, he discovers that her father (Alok Nath) has died, and decides to marry her despite his father's hostility. Yash learns of the marriage and disowns Rahul; whereupon Nandini and Rahul share a tearful goodbye. Nandini sends Sayeeda (Farida Jalal), Rahul and Rohan's nanny, to watch over him. Rahul visits Rohan in the Boarding School and begs of Rohan never to ask where he went or why he left, and asks that he take care of Nandini.

Amar Kant Varma (Shahrukh Khan) is a Program executive for All India Radio. He is dispatched from New Delhi to cover festivities in Northeast India. On his way there, during a rainy night, Amar stops at Haflong train station to catch Baraks Valley express, as the train runs late, Amar meets a mysterious woman by herself who asks him for a cup of tea.
