Synopsis
À Paris, à la fin des années 1970, Anne Parèze est une productrice de films pornographiques gay. Mais pour retrouver les faveurs de sa compagne de 10 ans sa cadette et monteuse Loïs, Anne va décider de changer de registre en se lançant dans le financement d'un film beaucoup plus ambitieux qui sera réalisé par son ami de longue date, le flamboyant Archibald. Ses projets sont cependant perturbés par un tueur en série masqué qui s'attaque tout d'abord au jeune Karl, un acteur qui a beaucoup tourné pour Anne avant de s'en prendre à la plupart des protagonistes du film. Anne est alors entraînée dans une étrange enquête qui va bouleverser sa vie.Actors

The story may not be linear and exhibits several instances of temporal disruption. A dark-haired woman (Harring) escapes her own murder, surviving a car accident on Mulholland Drive. Injured and in shock, she descends into Los Angeles and sneaks into an apartment which an older, red-headed woman has just vacated. An aspiring actress named Betty Elms (Watts) arrives at the same apartment and finds the dark-haired woman confused, not knowing her own name. The dark-haired woman assumes the name "Rita" after seeing a poster for the film Gilda (1946), starring Rita Hayworth. To help Rita remember her identity, Betty looks in Rita's purse, where she finds a large amount of money and an unusual blue key.

Smith is an 18-year-old film student who identifies sexually as "undeclared". He has been having strange dreams. Miriam Blaylock (Catherine Deneuve) is a beautiful and dangerous immortal vampire, promising specially chosen humans eternal life as her vampire lovers.
