Inspiré de la pièce Karl und Anna de Leonhard Frank, mais adaptée au retour d'un soldat grec de la défaite d'Asie mineure afin de réutiliser les images tournées pendant le conflit par Dimítrios Gaziádis. C'est un des tout derniers films muets grecs.
Le film souffrait cependant d'un scénario très fragmenté. Les diverses bobines ne sont pas raccord et l'ensemble paraît inachevé.
Synopsis
Deux soldats grecs originaire du même village se retrouvent séparés de leur unité lors de la guerre gréco-turque en Asie mineure. L'un d'entre eux, blessé, suggère à l'autre de l'abandonner et d'essayer de se sauver. Il lui fait promettre cependant de prendre soin de sa femme. De retour au village, il tient sa promesse. Mais, il va bientôt plus loin. Il tombe amoureux de la femme de son ami et emménage avec elle. Cependant, le blessé a survécu. Il réussit, après bien des tribulations, à revenir dans son village pour découvrir son ami installé avec sa femme. Il songe d'abord au meurtre mais finit par repartir, seul, dans la nuit.Actors

Un riche propriétaire, Mitros, essaye d'épouser une jeune et belle bergère, Kroustallo, car elle lui rappelle son amour de jeunesse, madame Stathaina. Il lui offre une grosse croix en or. Mais, elle est amoureuse de son côté d'un pauvre berger Liakos et refuse. Mitros a été sauvé de la noyade par Liakos. La croix provoque une dispute entre les deux hommes. Mitros demande la main de Kroustallo à sa mère, madame Stathaina. On découvre alors que Kroustallo est la fille cachée de Mitros.

L'Occupation, une ville de province. Sept personnes, des amis, se retrouvent réunies pour un repas d'anniversaire. Durant la fête, un attentat a lieu et deux officiers allemands sont abattus. Set around 1900, the titular Lazybones is in love with Agnes. Her sister, Ruth, returns home with a child and a story about marrying a seaman who was lost at sea. She attempts suicide by jumping in the river, but Lazybones saves her and, taking pity on the child, Kit, adopts her without revealing her true mother. Agnes and Ruth's mother is very strict and when told by Ruth of the child, strikes her with a cane. As the years pass, Ruth dies and Lazybones goes off to World War I. When he returns, intending to marry Kit now that she is grown up, he finds that she is in love with Dick Ritchie.

Les Carabiniers met en scène deux hommes pauvres appelés pour se battre à la guerre et qu'on trompe en leur promettant toutes les richesses du monde. Ulysse (Marino Masè) et Michelangelo (Albert Juross) reçoivent du roi de leur pays fictif des lettres qui leur accordent une liberté complète tant qu'ils se battront : ils auront tout ce qu'ils désirent : piscines, Maseratis, femmes – et le tout aux frais de l'ennemi. Ils quittent tous les deux leurs épouses (Catherine Ribeiro et Geneviève Galéa) et traversent champs de bataille et villages, en détruisant et pillant tout leur saoul. Ils racontent leurs exploits à leurs femmes sur des cartes postales qu'ils leur envoient, en rapportant les horreurs des batailles. La représentation idéaliste qu'ils se faisaient de la guerre s'en va en morceaux car ils sont toujours pauvres et maintenant blessés.

We see a panorama of London in 1600 and travel to the Globe Theatre where the audience is being seated. The Chorus (Leslie Banks) enters and implores the audience to use their imagination to visualise the setting of the play. We then see, up on a balcony, two clergymen, The Archbishop of Canterbury (Felix Aylmer), and the Bishop of Ely (Robert Helpmann) discussing the current affairs of state. Henry (Laurence Olivier) then enters, and discusses with his nobles the state of France. A gift is delivered to Henry from the French Dauphin. The gift turns out to be tennis balls, a jibe at Henry's youth and inexperience. Offended, Henry sends the French ambassador away, and prepares to claim the French throne, a throne that he believes is rightfully his.

In Berlin at the end of World War II, Wilhelm Furtwängler (Stellan Skarsgård) is conducting Beethoven's 5th Symphony when yet another Allied bomb raid stops the performance. A minister in Hitler's government comes to Furtwängler's dressing room to advise him that he should go abroad, and escape the war. The film then jumps to some time after the Allied victory, and we see U.S. Army General Wallace (R. Lee Ermey) task Major Steve Arnold (Harvey Keitel) with "getting" Furtwängler at his denazification hearing: "Find Wilhelm Furtwängler guilty. He represents everything that was rotten in Germany".

The film tells the story of a mixed group of Army nurses stationed in Bataan during World War II. At the beginning of the film, the head nurse, Lt. Mary Smith (Margaret Sullavan) begs her superior, Capt. Alice Marsh (Fay Bainter) for more nurses to help deal with the excessive workload, but instead of professional nurses, she is assigned a group of civilians from various backgrounds. They lack experience and require training and find it difficult to settle in. Pat Conlin (Ann Sothern) rebels against Lt. Smith's strict nature, but the group begin to reveal stories from their past and become better acquainted. They also meet a male officer, Lt. Holt (Allan Byron), and Pat becomes infatuated with him, leading to jealousy between her and Lt. Smith who refuses to explain why she is offended by Pat's attention to him. During an air-raid one of the volunteers, Sue West (Dorothy Morris), is separated from the group, and some of the women, including her sister Andra (Heather Angel) search for her. After three days she is found alive, having spent the time trapped in a hut with the corpses of several soldiers who were killed during the attack.
