Inspiré de la pièce Karl und Anna de Leonhard Frank, mais adaptée au retour d'un soldat grec de la défaite d'Asie mineure afin de réutiliser les images tournées pendant le conflit par Dimítrios Gaziádis. C'est un des tout derniers films muets grecs.
Le film souffrait cependant d'un scénario très fragmenté. Les diverses bobines ne sont pas raccord et l'ensemble paraît inachevé.
Synopsis
Deux soldats grecs originaire du même village se retrouvent séparés de leur unité lors de la guerre gréco-turque en Asie mineure. L'un d'entre eux, blessé, suggère à l'autre de l'abandonner et d'essayer de se sauver. Il lui fait promettre cependant de prendre soin de sa femme. De retour au village, il tient sa promesse. Mais, il va bientôt plus loin. Il tombe amoureux de la femme de son ami et emménage avec elle. Cependant, le blessé a survécu. Il réussit, après bien des tribulations, à revenir dans son village pour découvrir son ami installé avec sa femme. Il songe d'abord au meurtre mais finit par repartir, seul, dans la nuit.Actors

Un riche propriétaire, Mitros, essaye d'épouser une jeune et belle bergère, Kroustallo, car elle lui rappelle son amour de jeunesse, madame Stathaina. Il lui offre une grosse croix en or. Mais, elle est amoureuse de son côté d'un pauvre berger Liakos et refuse. Mitros a été sauvé de la noyade par Liakos. La croix provoque une dispute entre les deux hommes. Set around 1900, the titular Lazybones is in love with Agnes. Her sister, Ruth, returns home with a child and a story about marrying a seaman who was lost at sea. She attempts suicide by jumping in the river, but Lazybones saves her and, taking pity on the child, Kit, adopts her without revealing her true mother. Agnes and Ruth's mother is very strict and when told by Ruth of the child, strikes her with a cane. As the years pass, Ruth dies and Lazybones goes off to World War I. When he returns, intending to marry Kit now that she is grown up, he finds that she is in love with Dick Ritchie.

On the eve of a battle in 1918, a new officer, Second Lieutenant Raleigh (David Manners), joins Captain Stanhope's (Colin Clive) company in the British trench lines in France. The two men knew each other at school: the younger Raleigh hero-worshipping Stanhope, while Stanhope has come to love Raleigh's sister. But the Stanhope whom Raleigh encounters now is a changed man who, after three years at the front, has turned to drink and seems close to a breakdown. Stanhope is terrified that Raleigh will betray Stanhope's decline to his sister, whom Stanhope still hopes to marry after the war. Le soir du 1er août, le commandant Corlaix, de la Marine française, organise un dîner avec les officiers de son croiseur et sa femme Yvonne. Frieda (Mai Zetterling) is a German woman who helps English airman Robert (David Farrar) to escape from a German prisoner-of-war camp as the Second World War nears its end. She loves him; he is only grateful to her. In a church between the Russian-German lines however, Robert marries her, so that she may obtain a British passport. Together they eventually arrive in his Oxfordshire home. Les Carabiniers met en scène deux hommes pauvres appelés pour se battre à la guerre et qu'on trompe en leur promettant toutes les richesses du monde. Ulysse (Marino Masè) et Michelangelo (Albert Juross) reçoivent du roi de leur pays fictif des lettres qui leur accordent une liberté complète tant qu'ils se battront : ils auront tout ce qu'ils désirent : piscines, Maseratis, femmes – et le tout aux frais de l'ennemi. Ils quittent tous les deux leurs épouses (Catherine Ribeiro et Geneviève Galéa) et traversent champs de bataille et villages, en détruisant et pillant tout leur saoul. Ils racontent leurs exploits à leurs femmes sur des cartes postales qu'ils leur envoient, en rapportant les horreurs des batailles. La représentation idéaliste qu'ils se faisaient de la guerre s'en va en morceaux car ils sont toujours pauvres et maintenant blessés.
