La Revanche, also known as The Vengeance, is a 1916 Australian feature-length film directed by W. J. Lincoln about the revenge sought by Belgian friends of Edith Cavell against the Germans during World War I. It was a sequel to Nurse Cavell (1916), using many of the same cast and crew.
It is considered a lost film.
Synopsis
Following the execution of Edith Cavell the Germans continue to practice atrocities. Two friends of Cavell, a Belgian officer, Captain Devreaux, becomes determined to get revenge. Among the German outrages depicted included: the flogging to death of a Belgian man who forgot to salute a German officer; the shooting of an old man who objected to the treatment of Belgian girls; the Kaiser awarding the Iron Cross to a man who murdered an innocent woman. In the end, the spy who denounced Cavell is shot by the Belgians. The German captain involved in the Cavell's execution is shot by a Belgian woman he was assaulting.Actors

Moondyne Joe is a convict who escapes after being victimised and mistreated by a cruel penal system. While on the run he is befriended by a tribe of aborigines who share with him their secret of a huge gold mine. Joe uses his new-found wealth to return to England and become a respected humanitarian under the assumed name Wyville. Recognised as possessing expertise in penal reform, he is ultimately sent back to Western Australia to help reform the colony's penal system. In the course of this he becomes involved in several subplots including the case of a young woman named Alice Walmsley who has been wrongly convicted of murdering her own child. Wyville/Moondyne succeeds in saving Alice from false imprisonment, helps to reform Western Australia's penal system, and achieves a number of other admirable ends before dying trying to save Alice and Sheridan from bushfires.

However he is greatly in debt so on Christmas Day 1833 murders a Polish Jew (Mr Cullenane) who visits the inn for his gold. He uses this to pay off his debts and rise in society, becoming the burgomeister of the town – however he is always tormented by guilt.
