François (Bernard Campan) is a bored office worker with health problems. He visits a brothel and claiming to have won the lottery and millions of euros, he propositions Daniela (Monica Bellucci), one of the prostitutes to live with him for the sum of 100,000 euros a month until his money runs out. She accepts. François' first doctor, André, is worried that Daniela's volcanic sexuality will cause François' heart to give out. The next day she takes François to beach and he loves that fresh air. They both starts running with hands wide out and cheering in joy. Then they both involve in sex inside François's car. That night André inquires them and finds their sexual activity that evening. Then André gives a moving speech about an idealistic and unrequited love he has for a nurse who later became his patient. Later, when Daniela suffers food poisoning and André is summoned to treat her, when she undresses he suffers a stroke and dies. At the funeral, François learns that André's nurse/patient/girlfriend had died some years before. The arrangement between Daniela and François seems to work for a little while until Daniela's former lover, Charly (Gérard Depardieu) demands money to allow the relationship to continue. François refuses and Daniela resumes being with Charly. While Daniela is having sex with Charly, she realizes she has really fallen in love with François who has meanwhile, started an affair with his next-door neighbor. The film concludes with a surreal pastiche of fantasy and conjecture which begins with François admitting that he never won the lottery.

Fils d'un héros de la police abattu par Pierrot le fou, Michel Clément (Coluche) est loin d'égaler son père Jules. Encouragé par sa mère (Marthe Villalonga) à suivre les traces paternelles, il obtient de justesse son diplôme d'inspecteur de police (par indulgence du jury) et se retrouve stagiaire à la PJPP (Police Judiciaire de la Préfecture de Police). Celui-ci, trouvant son visage bien trop connu, subit une opération de chirurgie esthétique.

Three young men (Jacques, Pierre and Michel) share an apartment in Paris, and have many girlfriends and parties (During the movie, we even learn that they have signed a contract never to allow a girl to spend more than one night at their place). Once, during a party, a friend of Jacques' tells him he has a quite compromising package (which turned out to be heroin) to deliver, and asks him if he can leave it discreetly at their place. Jacques agrees and, as he works as a steward, flies away for a one month trip in Japan, telling Pierre and Michel about the package. Then, one of Jacques' former girlfriends drops a baby before their door, making Pierre and Michel believing it is the package they are waiting for. Their lives are then completely changed. This movie follows the bachelors as they deal with angry gangsters, suspicious cops, and the overwhelming responsibility of fatherhood.

Philippe Derblay est maître de forges, propriétaire d'une usine, voisine du château de la marquise de Beaulieu. Il est amoureux de Claire de Beaulieu, sa fille, mais celle-ci est fiancée au duc de Bligny qui se ruine au jeu. Lorsque ce dernier apprend que la marquise est elle-même ruinée, il rompt ses fiançailles pour épouser Athénaïs Moulinet, la fille d'un nouveau riche. Par dépit, la fière Claire de Beaulieu se marie avec Philippe Derblay qu'elle n'aime pas. Le mariage n'est pas consommé. Pour éviter le scandale, le maître de forges fait bonne figure et n'envisage pas d'annuler son mariage. Au cours d'une réception chez lui, il est obligé de renvoyer devant tout le monde Athénaïs et le duc à la demande de Claire car celle-ci soupçonne Athénaïs de flirter avec son mari. C'est alors qu'elle comprend qu'elle l'aime. Le dénouement a lieu au cours d'une scène qui aurait pu sombrer dans le tragique.
