The title in Russian is ambiguous and can also mean "Little Faith," symbolizing the characters' lack of hope (or a glimmer thereof).
The film was the leader in ticket sales in the Soviet Union in 1988 with 54.9 million viewers, and was the most successful Soviet film in the US since Moscow Does not Believe in Tears. Part of its popularity was due to being one of the first Soviet movies with explicit sexual scenes.
The film's main character and namesake is a teenage girl, who just having finished school feels trapped in her provincial town. With its pessimistic and cynical view of Soviet society, the film was typical of its time (perestroika), during which many such films, collectively known as the chernukha (Russian: чернуха, roughly "black stuff"), were released. However, the film's popularity did not prove long lived.
The film received 6 awards and was nominated for 8 more. Among its wins, it received "Best Actress" for Natalya Negoda at the Nika Awards in 1989. The film's director, Vasili Pichul, received the Special Jury Prize at the 1988 Montreal World Film Festival and FIPRESCI Prize at the 1988 Venice Film Festival.
The soundtrack's main theme consists of two songs performed by Sofia Rotaru "Bylo no proshlo" (It Was, But It Has Gone) and "Tol'ko etogo malo" (Only This Is Not Enough), "the leitmotif of the perestroika classic Little Vera".
Synopsis
Young Vera lives with her mother and her alcoholic father, Kolya, who are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with her choice of friends and what they consider her decadent lifestyle. They wonder why she can’t be more like her brother Victor, a doctor living in Moscow. At an underground dance party that is broken up by police, she meets Sergei, and they immediately fall in love. It turns out Sergei is an old friend of Victor, who, in town for a visit, calls on his friend only to find him alone with his sister.Actors

The exiled settler Alexander Ilyin persuades the goldmines owner Trifon Perfilyev to sponsor the expedition dedicated to the searches of "Sannikov Land", a legendary warm land behind the Polar circle. Hoping that this land could be filled with gold, Perfilyev agrees. Few more daredevils volunteer for the mission. The finally gathered crew consists of Ilyin himself, officer Evgeniy Krestovskiy, Perfilyev's servant Ignatiy, who is given a task of killing every other crew member in case they truly find any gold, and Gubin, a Katorga runaway and a former doctor.

The story takes place in a village of Tajikistan, with another close village in the background. Nilufar (Nasiba Sharipova) is a pretty girl living in a village near the border. She is an assistant to Kirill (Yuriy Nazarov), the Russian operator of a climate observatory on a hill. He has trained her to make observations with the instruments used there. The meteorologist is an old man and has been separated from his family for a long time. He wants to go home, but no replacement has been sent yet, and communications with the central bureau have been disrupted. He decides to transfer his responsibility to Nilufar, after her marriage with Aziz of the next village. But on the day of the engagement, soldiers come and plant barbed wire to separate the two villages. The life of the people, who have thus far enjoyed peace, now falls into severe chaos. The school is in the lower village, as is the clinic and the people of the upper village are not allowed to cross the border except at the nearest border crossing, 50 km away. The biggest problem is Nilufar's wedding. The military has gone so far as to place mines along the fence. Using a home-built metal detector, Kirill tries his best to help the wedding party to cross the mined borders. They manage to do so, but in the closing scene, Kyrill steps on a mine he failed to find, and apparently loses his life to allow the young couple to join.

L'histoire se déroule au printemps 1940. La vie des élèves de la classe de 9e "B" se déroule comme d'habitude. Au centre des événements se trouve Iskra Poliakova, délégué de classe et membre du Komsomol dévouée, dont la mère appelée camarade Poliakova est une communiste qui s'est distinguée lors de la Guerre civile russe. Imperturbable Vika lui demande si elle a déjà lu Essénine et lui prête le livre.

Furniture supplier Ram (Derek Ramsay) is happily married to Charmaine (Cristine Reyes). One day, Ram lands a big client, a new luxury resort.
