Synopsis
Livingstone est le surnom qu'un bande de gamins a donné à un brocanteur d'une cinquantaine d'années qui vit en lisière de leur village. Il les tient sous le charme de son talent de conteur, en leur parlant de l'Afrique, de sa mystérieuse forêt vierge, de ses animaux fabuleux et de ses tribus étranges. Mais un jour, Livingstone est accusé d'avoir agressé pour le voler un commerçant voisin : tandis que le monde des adultes se réjouit de voir évincé ce marginal, les enfants eux refusent de voir déboulonner leur idole. Malins, rusés, ils se faufileront partout pour faire leur contre-enquête et ils réussiront, bien sûr, à démasquer le vrai coupable.Actors

Durant l'Entre-deux-guerres, un paisible village provençal voit l'arrivée d'une jeune femme allemande et de sa petite fille. Elles viennent retrouver le père de cette dernière, Français ancien prisonnier en Allemagne. Mais elles arrivent le jour-même de son enterrement. Cette arrivée inopinée sème le trouble, lorsque la jeune Allemande découvre qu'il avait caché à tout le village ses conditions de vie en Allemagne, conditions pas si inconfortables qu'il le prétendait pourtant dans ses lettres. Honorin, le maire, recueille les deux étrangères, tandis que le village se divise entre les bienveillants et les opposants à la présence de ces deux ressortissantes de l'ancien pays ennemi.

1925, dans un paisible village provençal, le calme estival est soudain troublé par l'arrivée inopinée de quatre charmantes jeunes femmes accompagnées d'un chaperon, une femme aussi belle qu'autoritaire, et d'un tirailleur sénégalais. François Perrin is a belligerent factory worker who plays football for a local amateur team, in a club owned by a rich businessman who also owns the factory where Perrin, as well as most of the population of Trincamp, works. His attitude doesn't endear him to anyone, and the situation is not helped when, at a training session, he pushes Berthier, the star and captain of the team, who demands that Perrin be expelled. Soon thereafter, he is also fired from his job, and the whole town turns against him and he is even prohibited from entering the local bar. When a drunk Berthier tries to rape a woman one night, Perrin is immediately framed for the deed, and ends up in jail after being brutalized by the police. Two months later, the Trincamp team is to participate in an important game for the France's Cup, but the bus carrying the team gets into an accident, and out of desperation to replace the injured players, Perrin is released from jail to help out the team. While on the way to the stadium, he manages to evade police and finds the rape victim and confront her. Rather than resulting in conflict, he actually finds someone who believes him, since she was not positive in her earlier identification, and she decides to investigate the testimonies that convicted Perrin, while he goes on to play and scores both of his team's goals in a very tight victory. Perrin is now the town's hero, and he uses that position and the knowledge of who did what and who made false reports to the police to plot a subtle but effective revenge on those who have wronged him.

Bernard Milan, the second-in-command of France's Counter-Espionage department, is out to discredit his chief Louis Toulouse so that he can supplant him. When a French heroin smuggler who has been arrested in New York claims that the drug smuggling was a secret mission on the orders of French Counter-Espionage (actually on Milan's orders), the resulting bad press reflects on Toulouse, who cannot prove that Milan was responsible. In retaliation, Toulouse hatches a plot to deal with his ambitious subordinate: in a room which he knows is filled with hidden microphones, he sends his assistant Perrache to Orly airport at 9:30AM the next morning, making Milan (who has been listening) believe that Perrache has gone to meet a master spy who will expose Milan's treachery. However, Toulouse secretly instructs Perrache to choose someone at random from the crowd of travelers arriving at that time.
