Samotáři (Loners) is a 2000 Czech comedy film directed by David Ondříček. Actor Jiří Macháček won the Czech Lion Award for Best Actor in a supporting role in 2001 for his part in the movie, and the film was nominated in nine other categories, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film starred relatively unknown (at the time) actors such as Ivan Trojan, Jiří Macháček and Saša Rašilov Jr.

Synopsis

Robert travaille dans une agence de voyage avec Lenka, qui se vante souvent de ses biens et du prestige de son mari, un chirurgien respecté. Robert, franc et sensé, préfère cependant la vie de célibataire et choisit de rester libre des pressions des relations. Il ne connaît que trop l'absurdité de l'existence : son autre travail consiste à créer soigneusement et de toutes pièces des scènes de la vie tchèque 'de tous les jours' pour des touristes japonais fascinés. Il a pourtant une amie : Hanka, une femme têtue et légèrement hystérique.

Milan and Goran are two criminals who smuggle illegal immigrants. One night after they complete a smuggle, they discover that one of the immigrants has left a baby behind. Josef Tkaloun is a teacher at a high school in Prague who cannot control his anger when his pupils misbehave in his poetry class. He quits his job and despite his wife urging him to retire, becomes a cycle courier. After an inevitable accident, he still refuses to stay at home and takes a job in the local Žižkov supermarket. He works behind a counter, recycling glass beer bottles. He begins to flirt with the customers and matchmake both for an old friend and for the man he works with. His own flirtations (and sexually charged dreams) almost get him into trouble with his wife, so he resolves to reignite the passion in his marriage by celebrating his wedding anniversary with a hot air balloon ride. The scary balloon ride, ending in crash, revitalizes the relationship.
