Synopsis

Maitre André Gobillot (Jean Gabin), a distinguished lawyer in his mid 50s, successfully defends a beautiful young woman, Yvette Maudet (Brigitte Bardot), who has committed a robbery.

Phil a seize ans et Vinca quinze. Ils passent, comme chaque année, leurs vacances sur une plage bretonne, dans une maison que partagent leurs familles respectives. Ils sont comme frère et sœur mais cet été leur relation devient autre chose, sans qu'ils en aient encore vraiment conscience. Cependant, Phil fait la connaissance de l'élégante M Dalleray, trente ans de plus que lui et passant les vacances seule sur la côte où elle a une maison. Elle invite le tout jeune homme à y entrer un moment, elle l'incite ensuite à y revenir. On la voit attendrie, émue par la fraîcheur charmante de ce jeune homme en fleur. Phil, flatté par l'attention de cette femme belle et raffinée mais qui a l'âge de sa mère, se laisse séduire et lui rend bientôt en cachette des visites nocturnes... que Vinca ne tarde pas à découvrir et à lui reprocher.

A somewhat artificial looking young dandy goes to an ornate dance hall, where he finds a young woman to be his dance partner. When he faints from the exertion, a doctor is called. He discovers that the dandy is in fact an old man wearing a mask to hide his aged appearance. The doctor takes the old man home to his patient wife. She explains that her husband Ambroise used to attract the ladies who frequented the hairdresser salon where he worked, but in the space of two years, he lost his looks. He goes out in disguise in an attempt to recapture his youth.
