Add to a movie listLove & Pop (ラブ&ポップ, Rabu & Poppu) is director Hideaki Anno's first live action film, an adaptation of Ryū Murakami's novel, Topaz II. Released in 1998, it somewhat follows the film Tokyo Decadence, an adaptation of Topaz I filmed by Murakami himself. Love & Pop was filmed almost entirely on hand-held digital cameras, and contains some very unusual camera work, including many different mounted camera positions, such as on a model train riding on tracks. The film also flips from widescreen to 4:3 aspect, distorts (with effects such as a fisheye lens), confuses, and makes use of overlays stacked in layers to convey the character's emotions.
An official English DVD was released in 2004 by Kino on Video.

In 2015, fifteen years after a global cataclysm known as the Second Impact, Shinji Ikari is summoned to Tokyo-3 by his estranged father Gendo, the commander of the mysterious NERV organization. Shinji is caught in the crossfire between UN forces and an angel, an alien lifeform, colonel Misato Katsuragi rescues him and brings him to NERV headquarters. Gendo demands Shinji pilot Evangelion Unit 01, a giant mecha cyborg, against the angel. Shinji concedes when Gendo threatens to send Rei Ayanami, a wounded Evangelion pilot, into battle instead. Shinji and wins the fight after Unit 01 goes berserk and destroys the Angel.

Asuka Langley Shikinami and Mari Illustrious Makinami, pilots of giant Evangelion cyborgs, are sent into in space to retrieve a container in which Evangelion Unit 01 and its pilot Shinji Ikari are sealed. When Asuka grabs the container with her Evangelion unit, it releases attack drones. Unit 01 awakens and destroys the drones, then deactivates and descends back to Earth. Kaworu Nagisa watches and says he has been waiting for Shinji.

The film follows five simultaneous, loosely linked plot lines, that intertwine and scramble together. A man (Tadanobu Asano) keeps killing his wife (Reika Hashimoto) and burying her in the woods only to find her alive, furious, and waiting for him when he returns home. L'Audience suit le parcours d’un jeune homme catholique, Amedeo (Enzo Janacci), qui a quitté sa ville natale, dans le nord de l’Italie, pour venir à Rome, avec une idée fixe : obtenir une audience privée du pape Paul VI à qui il a des révélations très importantes à faire. Elle le met en rapport avec un politicien d’extrême droite, le prince Donati (Vittorio Gassman), qui le recommande à Monseigneur Amerin (Michel Piccoli), un prêtre moderne. Mais c’est à un père Jésuite (Alain Cuny), rencontré au cours d’un dîner, qu’Amedeo dira, en secret, son message au Pape : le prêtre paraît bouleversé par son contenu.
