Synopsis

Ses professeurs, entraîneurs, amis d’enfance et coéquipiers du Barça, ainsi que des journalistes, des écrivains et des personnalités de l’histoire du football, se réunissent dans un restaurant pour analyser et distinguer la personnalité de Messi, sur et en dehors du terrain, et pour faire le point des moments les plus significatifs de sa vie. Considéré sous l’angle unique d’Alex de la Iglesia, Messi reconstitue l’enfance et l’adolescence du joueur, et ce, dès ses tout premiers pas, avec un ballon toujours à ses pieds, jusqu’à la décision de quitter Rosario pour Barcelone, la séparation de sa famille et la rôle joué dans sa carrière par des personnalités telles que Ronaldinho, Rijkaard, Rexach et Guardiola.

S'inspirant du film Les Yeux dans les Bleus, le réalisateur et son caméraman ont filmé de l'intérieur le quotidien de l'équipe au cours de l'épreuve. Le film couvre une période qui va du stage préparatoire à la compétition jusqu'à la fête finale avec les supporteurs allemands à Berlin après le match pour la troisième place remporté contre le Portugal. On y retrouve ainsi les scènes typiques du quotidien des footballeurs telles que les discours des entraîneurs ou la déception après la défaite face à l'Italie en demi-finale. Dans le documentaire, on découvre de manière plus intime les différents joueurs de la sélection. On y apprend par ailleurs que le sélectionneur Jürgen Klinsmann délègue la partie tactique à son adjoint Joachim Löw pour se consacrer à la motivation des joueurs lors de ses « causeries » avant les matchs et pendant les mi-temps.

The film follows 13-year-old football starlet Pablo Rosario around for a year, Pablo is thirteen and follows a general secondary education, while playing for local football club DWS, the same club that produced the likes of Frank Rijkaard and Ruud Gullit, Dutch international football stars who both found their start in the youth ranks of this same club. Just like many soccer playing boys his age, Pablo dreams of one day playing for FC Barcelona. His coach is convinced of the young boys talent and foresees a great future for him. Filmmaker Jack Janssen follows Pablo for a whole year, a year where all three of the Dutch big three Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord express an interest in contracting the young child. Janssen shows Pablo's performance on the pitch, where he is able to effortlessly dissect his opponents, with his family watching, where his father showers him with well-intended, but oftentimes inconsistent advice. At school things are running less smoothly for young Pablo, while the film offers insight into the world of a young professional soccer player, where a continuous and often even tougher battle for young talents is fought by the top clubs.

Martin Levidzhov's journey to becoming Mr Manchester United begins back in 1999 when he was watching the Champions League final between Manchester United and Bayern Munich. In the 89th minute of the match he vowed to change his name to Manchester United if his favourite team managed to turn around the 0:1 negative score. The British team did it in the most dramatic of fashions, thus determining Levidzhov's future struggles for the next fifteen years. The protagonist then undertook his fight with the Bulgarian legal system to have his name changed, a right he was repeatedly denied by various court instances.
