Girlfriends (French title: Mes copines) is a 2006 French-Belgian comedy film directed by Sylvie Ayme and starring Stéphanie Sokolinski, Djena Tsimba, Léa Seydoux and Anne-Sophie Franck.

Synopsis

Manon, Djena, Aurore et Marie sont quatre copines qui rêvent de remporter le Défi danse, une compétition de hip-hop inter-écoles. Leur idée folle pour se distinguer des concurrentes : substituer la sensualité à la prouesse technique, en s'inspirant notamment des danses indiennes. Pour arriver à leurs fins, les voilà donc parties à la découverte du plaisir ! Mais elles vont comprendre que le succès passe avant tout par l'épanouissement personnel...

Nancy, dans les années 1980. Gloria (Soko) est une ado rebelle dans une famille très stricte. Alors qu'elle se fait donner des leçons par ses parents (Nadège Prugnard et Fantazio), elle pique une crise de nerfs et elle est internée à l'hôpital psychiatrique Jeanne d'Arc de Dommartin-lès-Toul. Le psychiatre (Jean-Yves Ruf) lui reproche sa façon de s'enlaidir avec son look punk, sa façon de « se mettre en danger » et lui pose des questions intimes sur sa sexualité, auxquelles Gloria refuse de répondre. Gloria a du mal à supporter sa privation de liberté, mais sa rencontre avec Frances (Clara Ponsot), prétendument internée pour amnésie, lui donne plus de courage. Frances, très sûre d'elle et apparemment contente d'être là, commence à flirter avec elle. À sa sortie, Frances envoie plusieurs lettres d'amour enflammées à Gloria, alors que cette dernière ne lui envoie qu'une seule lettre de rupture. Quand Gloria sort finalement de l'hôpital, elle réintègre sa bande de punks et revoit Frances qui fait partie de la bande adverse de skins. Les deux tombent pourtant amoureuses l'une de l'autre et Frances suit la bande de Gloria pour quelque temps, même si elle ne s'y sent pas à l'aise. Frances finit par la quitter et Gloria part zoner seule dans la ville par dépit.

Surnommé le « chef des pauvres », Edmond Martin officie dans la cuisine d'une soupe populaire une fois par semaine. Lui-même est SDF depuis 18 ans, malgré ses réelles compétences en matière culinaire. Edmond Martin se décide enfin à rencontrer sa fille, qui a adopté le patronyme de sa mère, et se rend dans le palace où elle travaille. Là, il est pris pour le critique d'un prestigieux guide hôtelier.

Yasmin joins journalism, even though her real passion is singing even though she hasn't realized yet. She also feels lonely as her friends are busy with their own cliques. She also meets Dylan (Ian Nelson), who is deaf but can lip read. The friends begin to drift apart, as they are compelled to stay within their cliques. Two years later, when an accidental food fight causes them to get detention, they realize that they miss being BFFs and decide to be friends again. They also try to get the other schoolmates to socialize outside their cliques, but their attempts fail when Meredith's 2nd Super Sweet 16 party (which ends disastrously) has them seated with their original cliques. The upcoming talent show and its prize of a scholarship gives them the idea to bring all the cliques together again with an act, but the chances are slim with Meredith's constant attempts to steal the spotlight. In the end, there is a tie. Meredith gets the trophy, but the girls get the scholarship, which they later give to Cloe.

After Seth is paired with Jules (Emma Stone) during Home-Ec class, she invites him to a party at her house later that night. Later, Fogell (Christopher Charles Mintz-Plasse) comes up to the two and reveals his plans to obtain a fake ID during lunch. Seth uses this to his advantage and promises to bring alcohol to Jules' party. Fogell's fake ID is met with derision by Seth and Evan, as it states that Fogell's name is simply "McLovin". After contemplating their options, Seth decides they have no choice but to have Fogell buy the alcohol with his fake ID. Fogell goes in and successfully buys the alcohol, but is interrupted when a robber enters the store, punches him in the face, and takes money from the cash register.
