Synopsis

Les élèves du lycée de Canterlot participent à une excursion au Camp Everfree, un camp nature dirigé par Gloriosa Daisy et son frère Romain Desbois (Timber Spruce en VO). In Equestria, the newly crowned Princess Twilight Sparkle visits the Crystal Empire with her Ponyville friends for a royal summit with princesses Celestia, Luna, and Cadance. That night, Twilight's crown and Element of Magic is stolen by the unicorn Sunset Shimmer, a former student of Celestia. After a chase through the castle, Sunset drops the crown through a magic mirror and follows after it. The princesses inform the ponies that the mirror leads to a different world, and they task Twilight with retrieving her crown on the other side before the portal closes again for thirty moons, or else the Elements of Harmony borne by her friends will no longer protect Equestria. Despite Celestia's insistence that Twilight must travel alone, Twilight's dragon assistant Spike anxiously jumps in after her as she enters the mirror.

In the human world, the students of Canterlot High School are preparing for an upcoming musical showcase, where Twilight Sparkle's human friends are to perform in their own band called the Rainbooms. They find that they assume half-pony forms whenever they play, which is caused by the Equestrian magic brought by Twilight's crown. Meanwhile, former school bully Sunset Shimmer is ostracized by the rest of the students despite her efforts to redeem herself, though Twilight's friends still value their newfound friendship with Sunset. Sunset volunteers to show three new students—Adagio Dazzle, Aria Blaze, and Sonata Dusk—around the school. The trio, who form a band called the Dazzlings, perform a magical song that drives the students to aggression and competition, and they convince the school to make the showcase a Battle of the Bands. Sunset and her friends are unaffected by the Dazzlings' spell, and they contact Equestria for help through a magical book given to Sunset by Princess Celestia.

The students of Canterlot High School prepare for the quadrennial Friendship Games sporting event held between their school team, the Wondercolts, and the Shadowbolts from Crystal Prep Academy, a prestigious school with a reputation of poor sportsmanship and a fierce competitive streak. Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna advise Sunset Shimmer and her friends against using Equestrian magic in the games to keep the competition fair, but Sunset, who has been studying the magic's effects in the human world, becomes concerned when her friends begin to "pony up" (magically gain pony-like ears, tails and wings) at seemingly random times. Meanwhile, Crystal Prep is attended by the human world's version of Twilight Sparkle, a school outcast who has been investigating magical activity at Canterlot High as part of an independent study application. Twilight's principal, Abacus Cinch, forces her to lend her intellectual skill in the games by threatening to revoke her application.

Ernie Fitzpatrick is a daredevil kid who lives in Terra Dino with his best friend Max Santiago and his trouble-making sister Julia, who likes to bust him. Ernie and Julia live with their mother Sue, who has been chosen as the mother of the year, but she is overprotective of them and often makes them leave notes. Ernie is told to go to the store after school to keep an eye on it, but he disobeys orders and goes with Max to the Terra Dino Museum to sneak into a forbidden part of the area still under construction to see the bones of the ferocious Sarcosuchus. But Julia enters as well and uses a quarter from Ernie to set off the alarm. Julia is able to escape but Ernie and Max get caught by the guards, and Sue grounds Ernie for three weeks. When Ernie finds out Julia did it, he gets sick and tired of how he never gets his own way, but he decides to get his revenge by sneaking out again, but Julia discovers this and follows.
