Odessa in Flames (Romanian: Odessa în flăcări) (Italian: Odessa in fiamme) is a 1942 Italian-Romanian film directed by Carmine Gallone. The film is about the Battle of Odessa in 1941.
The Siege of Odessa was part of The Great Patriotic War area of operations in 1941. The operation was primarily conducted by Romanian forces and elements of the German Army's 11th Army (11. Armee of the Wehrmacht Heer).
Synopsis
The movie is a Romanian-Italian co-production about the drama of the refugees from Bessarabia (now Moldova) in World War II. It pays homage to the Romanian troops who freed Bessarabia from the Red Army, which occupied it in 1940. The movie won the great prize at the Festival of Venice in 1942. It includes footage from contemporary newsreels, with refugee columns running away.Actors

Durant la Troisième guerre punique, alors que le consul Scipion Émilien débarque sur les côtes d'Afrique, la ville de Carthage connait de plus en plus de problèmes face aux Romains. À l'intérieur même de la cité, les Carthaginois sont partagés, certains voulant lutter jusqu'à la mort, d'autres préférant traiter avec l'ennemi. Hermon lui-même, suffète à la tête du Grand Conseil de la cité, hésite sur la conduite à adopter. Phégor, le chef de la garde sacrée, est favorable aux négociations avec les Romains qui souhaitent détruire Carthage et reconstruire une nouvelle cité plus éloignée de la côte afin de réduire à néant la puissance maritime de la rivale de Rome tandis qu'Hiram, chef militaire de Carthage, pense qu'il faut défendre la ville contre les Romains et doit s'exiler pour échapper à la mort. Il laisse sa fiancée Ophir, la fille d'Hermon, menacée aussi par l'avancée romaine. Hiram revient à Carthage afin de sauver Fulvia, une romaine qui lui a jadis sauvé la vie et que le grand prêtre s'apprête à sacrifier sur l'autel de Baal-Moloch en raison de la haine du peuple pour les Romains. Hiram s'enfuit ensuite sur le navire de son ami Sidon mais Phégor qui voulait faire de Fulvia son épouse se lance à leur poursuite à bord de la dernière trirème que Rome a laissé à la flotte carthaginoise. Hiram revient ensuite enlever Ophir qui s'apprêtait à épouser Tsour, son ami d'enfance, car Hermon ne voulait pas que sa fille épouse Hiram bannit. L'armée carthaginoise commandée par Hasdrubal le Boétharque est définitivement vaincue par les légions romaines. Phégor trahit la cité dans le but d'éviter les morts tandis qu'Hiram qui plaide la cause de la défense de la ville est autorisé à rentrer à Carthage, il défend la cité contre les Romains mais vaincu, il doit fuir par la mer. Hiram et Ophir seront sauvés et verront de leur bateau la destruction de Carthage par les flammes.

Le film raconte l'histoire de Scipion l'Africain (interprété par Annibale Ninchi) pendant la Deuxième guerre punique au III siècle av. J.-C., après la bataille de Cannes. Hannibal Barca et les Carthaginois avancent sur Rome, Scipion demande au Sénat de lui confier la province sicilienne afin de porter la guerre en Afrique. Il parvient dans un premier temps à repousser l'ennemi en Espagne. Scipion rencontre son allié Massinissa et doit affronter Syphax, roi de la Numidie et allié d'Hannibal. Syphax est défait lors de la bataille des Grandes Plaines, sa femme la reine Sophonisbe préfère se suicider plutôt que subir le déshonneur des vaincus. Les carthaginois appellent Hannibal pour les aider, c'est la bataille de Zama en 202 av.

Tensions between the Hutu and Tutsi peoples lead to a war in Rwanda, where corruption and bribes between politicians are routine. In 1945, Benito Mussolini goes to Milan to talk with Archbishop Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster in order that he help him to escape from Italy. The Republic of Salò, the last bastion of fascism, is decaying, and the Americans, along with the partisans are about to win over Milan. Mussolini flees, pursued by his lover Claretta Petacci, and manages to get to the northern village of Dongo. There he clashes with the Germans, who order him to disguise himself as an officer of Germany rather than be captured by the partisans. Mussolini accepts without objection, always hoping for a revolt of his loyal fascists, but they are in jeopardy. When Mussolini's recognized, the leader of the partisans: Walter Audisio would like to first give him to the Americans, so that Mussolini is regularly processed. But the war crimes of the Duce are too many, and so Audisio finally decides to shoot him in front of the Villa Belmone in the village of Giulino, with his female companion.
