Synopsis

Trois couples habitant le même immeuble à Athènes partent en vacances en août. Un jeune délinquant, âgé de 17 ans, poursuivi par la police, se réfugie dans leur immeuble. Il pénètre dans tous les appartements. Ses explorations lui révèlent les vies des habitants. De leur côté, les couples se déchirent et courent à la catastrophe. Quatre récits parallèles en découlent. Un miracle dû à la Vierge amène un happy end.

Alex, the captain of a Greek oil tanker, is still dealing with the death of his son four years ago. While his ship the "Sea Voyager" is in the Mediterranean Sea, Captain Alex comes across a boat filled with adolescent refugees from Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He takes pity on the refugees and allows them on his ship. He plans to drop the refugees off at a port, but local authorities refuse to take them, forcing the refugees to stay on the boat. Their residence angers the ship's owners, and gradually the "Sea Voyager" becomes a claustrophobic war zone between the refugees and the ship's owners.

The film focuses on the courtship and marriage of aging Greek Theo Tomasis, who rose from his humble peasant roots to become an influential mogul who owns oil tankers, airlines, and Mediterranean islands and longs to be elected President of Greece, and considerably younger Liz Cassidy, the beautiful widow of the assassinated President of the United States. Theo immediately is attracted to her and, despite the fact she obviously is happily married, begins to woo her aboard his yacht while her husband is deep in conversation with the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. As the plot unfolds, Theo's beloved son Nico dies in an accident, his wife Simi commits suicide, James becomes President and appoints his brother John Attorney General, and Theo ends his affair with Paola to comfort and eventually marry grieving widow Liz.

Surfaced and returning to port, the submarine, USS Neptune, is struck by a Norweigian freighter in route to New York in heavy fog, and sinks to a depth of 1,450 feet (442 meters) on a canyon ledge above the ocean floor. A United States Navy rescue force, commanded by Captain Bennett (Keach), arrives on the scene, but Neptune is subsequently rolled by a gravity slide to a greater angle that does not allow the Navy's Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) rescue submarine to complete its work.
