Patanga is a 1971 Bollywood drama film directed by Kedar Kapoor. The film stars Shashi Kapoor, Vimi and Rajendra Nath in lead roles. Music was composed by Shankar Jaikishan. Film a moderate success at box office.
Synopsis
Shyam (Shashi Kapoor) was a son of Ramu kaka who works in the palace of Kuwar Amar Singh (Ajit Khan). Amar Singh considers him as his own brother and gets him good education. Shyam meets with Renu (Vimi) on a train while going to Dehradun and immediately gets attracted to her. As she finds her purse in his coat, she misunderstands him for a thief. Later it is known to her that Kuldeep (Rajendra Nath) who was a petty thief, has stolen her purse and kept in Shyam's coat. She apologize him and they grow close. Meanwhile it is revealed that Kuldeep was the lost cousin of Renu and they reconcile. Amar Singh asks Chandan Singh's sister's hand for Shyam for which Chandan Singh feels insulted as Shyam was servant's son and rivalry grows between them.Actors

Rajkumar Shamsher Singh is the only son of the local Maharaja, and has been brought up as a brat, and now he is an irresponsible, alcoholic, and womanizing adult, who wants everyone to bow down before him and his princely rank. One priest refuses to do so, and Shamsher pummels him mercilessly, in vain though. Frustrated, he asks the priest what he should do with his mundane life, and the priest tells him that he should repent, sacrifice all his palatial pleasures, and live the life of a simple and ordinary man, and hence learn the true meaning of life, for at least six months. Shamsher agrees to do so, and arranges an accident with his car, which plummets down a mountain, explodes and is blown to smithereens. Everyone in the palace believes that Shamsher is dead. He goes to a nearby village, and a blind woman there mistakes him for her long-lost son and starts calling him Sajjan Singh. Shamsher decides to play along as Sajjan.
