Patthar Ke Insaan is a 1990 Indian Bollywood film directed and produced by Shomu Mukherjee. It stars Vinod Khanna, Jackie Shroff, Sridevi and Poonam Dhillon in pivotal roles.
The film being released on 15 January 1990, Indian Army Day, was dedicated to the memory of Sashadhar Mukherjee, Shomu Mukherjee's father and founder of Filmalaya Studio.

Synopsis

The movie is based on Indian values of married life and family ties. Industrialist Balwant Rai is a philanthropic, hard working family man, having two daughters, elder Sita Rai and younger Lata Rai, heiress to their grandfather's industrial empire being run by their father and custodian Dr. Prashant, who wants to grab their empire and schemes and plots with the workers.

Gayetri lives with two close male friends, who she considers her brothers by the names of Veeru (Dharmendra) and Dheeru (Vinod Khanna), who are small-time thieves, and con men, and are known to the local police. When Gayatri meets and falls in love with Police Inspector Arjun Thanghe (Rajinikanth), the duo are delighted and arrange her marriage with great pomp and ceremony. Arjun is then assigned duties to a distant village, which is facing oppression at the hands of Raja Jaichand (Sadashiv Amrapurkar), who refuses to accept the Indian Government nor even acknowledge it, and rules the region like a dictator. Arjun attempts to set things right, but is killed in the process, and Gayetri loses her mind. Gayatri does find her way to contact her brothers, and is horrified to find them in the employ of the person who has killed her husband, none other than Mr.

Ram (Jackie Shroff) is an honest young man, who accidentally hits a stray puppy with his motorbike. He takes it to the vet, then raises it as his own until it grows into an adult. One day, Ram and his dog Moti, comes to the village of the powerful and corrupt Thakur Vijay Singh (Amrish Puri). Meanwhile, Thakur has his eyes on Bijli; he also has 2 slaves: a widow named Sharda Devi (Swapna), and Gopi (Raj Kiran), a man who is mute. Sardari and Munim clash with Ram, but retreat, beaten, to their boss. Ram helps Gopi and Sharda and assists them in their life, encouraging them to marry.

Ram (Girish Kumar) is a rich, city boy, born to billionaire parents and brought up in Australia. On the other hand, Sona (Shruti Hassan)is a traditional, simple desi girl from Punjab who is brought up by her only brother, Raghuveer (Sonu Sood). He is heartbroken when their father marries another woman and throws them out of the house, humiliating them on the way. Their mother dies and her tomb is built on the small land which they own until the zamindar tells them that it is his land, since their mother had taken a loan from the man. Raghuveer volunteers to work day and night, to pay off the loan as long as they don't tear down his mother's tomb. The Zamindar agrees and the local station master helps them. Slowly Raghuveer and Sona grow up. One day, Riya, Sona's best friend, comes to their house to invite Sona to their house as she is getting married. Riya's cousin, Ram also arrives on the same day with his mother, Ashwini (Poonam Dhillon).
