Pharaoh's Army is a 1995 American film directed, written and produced by Robby Henson, starring Chris Cooper, Patricia Clarkson and Kris Kristofferson. The film takes place in Kentucky during the American Civil War and focuses on an uneasy encounter between a small squadron of Union Army soldiers that take up residence at the farm of a woman whose husband is fighting in the Confederate States Army.

Synopsis

The story is narrated by an unnamed boy, now an old man, ‘as best as he can remember’.

It was 1920 in the southwest West Virginia coal fields, and, as the narrator recalls, "things were tough." In response to efforts by miners to organize into a labor union, the Stone Mountain Coal Company announces it will cut the pay miners receive, and will be importing replacement workers into town to replace those who join the union. The new workers are African Americans from Alabama and are coming in on the train, but the train is stopped outside town and the black men are told to get off. Derided as "scabs", they are then attacked by the local miners, but manage to get back on the train and continue their journey.

U.S. energy giant Connex is losing control of key Middle East oil fields in a kingdom ruled by the al-Subaai family. A Washington, D.C.-based law firm headed by Dean Whiting (Christopher Plummer) is hired to smooth the way for the merger. Bennett Holiday (Jeffrey Wright) is assigned to promote the impression of due diligence to the DOJ, deflecting any allegations of corruption.
