Synopsis
Richard et Omar, deux amis de toujours, habitent un quartier de banlieue où ils vivent de la vente de boissons chaudes sur le marché. Tout le monde se connaît ici. Entre voisins, on n’hésite pas à se rendre service, à se faire crédit, formant ainsi une charmante communauté. Tout le quartier est bouleversé lorsqu’Omar devient l’unique gagnant de la Loterie Internationale. Ce dernier prend peur et opte pour l’anonymat ; seul son père est au courant. C’est le début des ennuis… Les habitants du quartier peinent à se tenir tranquilles, la suspicion et la paranoïa les gagnent. Chacun guette le moindre indice de richesse (vêtements neufs, nouvelle voiture, déménagement inopiné) et plus personne n’ose craquer devant la promotion du jour d’une grande surface ! Alors qu’Omar dissimule sa nouvelle fortune, les habitants vont commencer à soupçonner Richard d’être le grand vainqueur de la loterie. Pour Richard, c’est le début des galères.Actors

Jean-Luc et Moussa, deux amis vivant en Seine-Saint-Denis, ont chacun leur ambition: Jean-Luc voudrait ouvrir son cabinet d'avocat, Moussa son propre café. Un jour qu'ils se trouvent dans le tramway, ils sont témoins d'un vol de bijouterie. Le voleur se débarrasse de son butin dans une poubelle avant d'être interpelé par la police. The film does not tell a story so much as present an essay-like study of Godard's view of contemporary life; Godard wrote that "I wanted to include everything: sports, politics, even groceries. The film begins with Alphonse Tram (Gérard Depardieu), a less than gregarious character, idly chatting to an accountant who is travelling home very late. The accountant, a man of orthodox social outlook and standing is disturbed by and fearful of this rambling loner, more so when Tram attempts to give him his bloodstained knife (in order to reduce the chances of him "doing something silly..."). They argue and the accountant puts the knife on a seat a few feet away behind them. They argue some more and then notice the knife has disappeared.

Marius and Jeannette live in the same working-class apartment complex in Marseille, in close proximity with their neighbors. The lame Marius is a security guard at an abandoned cement works, and since the company has gone out of business and the plant will soon be demolished, he is squatting in order to save money. Jeannette is a single mother raising her two children on her own on a meagre supermarket checkout operator salary. They meet when Jeannette tries to steal two cans of paint from the cement lot, and Marius catches her and tries to chase her. The following day Marius comes to her door to apologize, and brings her the two cans of paint. A relationship soon develops between them, but as both have been wounded by marital difficulties, and life in general, they are hesitant to become committed. It does not help that Jeannette's romantic fantasy notions are different from Marius' practical ideas. The two must learn how to love again in order for their relationship to blossom.
