Pratidwani (Kannada : ಪ್ರತಿಧ್ವನಿ) is a 1971 Kannada movie. The film stars Rajesh and Aarathi in the lead roles, along with Rajkumar, Narasimharaju, Balakrishna, Pandaribai in supporting roles with Dinesh as a leader for smugglers. Background song by S.P. Balasubramaniam.

Synopsis

As the name represent pratidhwani (resound) in other terms reacting to what has happened. The film starts with the smuggler Dinesh as a good person, donor in the public. He has driver who works for him from long time but unfortunately one day he listens about the smuggling meeting held between Dinesh and his co-worker. Knowing truth he conveys to Dinesh's wife and decides to leave job and run away from village. But the same night smugglers arrive to his home and kill the driver, his wife, daughter. But his two sons and granddaughter are left alive who are still child now. They take an oath of killing the smuggler.

Ravi Varma (Rajkumar), owner of a match box factory is a widower and has lost his daughter in an accident. Recognizing that his honest employee Chandru is in a similar position, he decides to help Chandru financially. As Chandru attends training in the U.S., Ravi takes care of Chandru's charming daughter. On return, Chandru suggests changing the company's structure. The traditionalist Ravi, becomes infuriated. Rajkumar plays an upright Panju, who stays in Bankapura with his mother. Due to evil policies of crown prince Vajramuni and princess Jayanti, Panju and villagers are at the risk of losing their lands. When much pleading does not work, Panju leads farmers agitation to the palace, where he is captured, put to jail and tortured. Panju escapes from the prison, kidnaps Jayanti to his village to teach her civic norms and show her the harsh realities normal people face each day. He gets the entire village relocated across adjoining river, so that royal soldiers cannot trace them. He is able to turn the princess to appreciate the normal way-of-life, but faces the wrath of Palace and administration. Can he turn the tides and win his biggest battle? The film also stars Arathi as a village girl who is in love with Panju, but before anything could occur she is killed by Vajramuni as she opposed his advances.
