À la suite de la décision prise d'arrêter la tournée et de ne pas la produire en Europe, le management de Prince mit en place une diffusion via satellite pour le concert de Syracuse donné à New York le 30 mars 1985. Pour la plupart des européens, ce fut la toute première occasion de voir Prince jouer live. Après sa sortie et ses diffusions à la télévision, les ventes de Purple Rain ont augmenté en conséquence.
Synopsis

Après 15 années de carrière la Warner Bros à tenus à sortir une compilation ou un best-of de son protégé. Une idée qu'il ne partagea pas du tout, ce conflit est un des premiers qui va entrainer l'émancipation de Prince. C'est sans son accord et après son changement de nom que la compagnie sort The Hits / The B-Sides et cette vidéo qui contient une sélection de clips. Ceci a permis aux fans de trouver ou retrouver, avec une image et un son parfaits, des clips assez anciens comme ceux de Uptown, Dirty Mind ou Controversy. On s'aperçoit alors que pendant très longtemps, les clips de Prince n'ont été que des extraits de concerts ou de répétitions (1999, Little Red Corvette).

The story begins with the assassination of Egyptian Princess Mayte's father by seven unknown assailants. Mayte believes that the assassins were after the sacred "3 Chains of Gold". The plot re-joins The Kid, in his future life as a performer and club owner. Morris (Morris Day), his rival from Purple Rain, returns as co-owner of The Kid's club, Glam Slam, as well as several others in the area, including his mainstay, Pandemonium. The Kid is forced into paying Morris $10,000 so Morris can pay off the mayor; The Kid in turn can keep co-ownership of his club. "The Kid" is the talented but troubled frontman of his Minneapolis-based band, The Revolution. To escape his difficult home life - his father is verbally and physically abusive, and his mother is emotionally abusive - he spends his days rehearsing and his nights performing at the First Avenue nightclub. First Avenue's three house band slots are held by The Revolution, the flashy Morris Day and his group The Time, and Dez Dickerson and The Modernaires. Morris knows that the Kid's guitarist, Wendy, and keyboardist, Lisa, are growing disgruntled with the Kid's leadership of the band, especially his refusal to play any of the music they have composed. Taking advantage of the situation, Morris lobbies Billy Sparks, the nightclub's owner, to back a more commercial girl group (which Morris is already forming) to replace the Revolution. He targets the Kid's girlfriend Apollonia - an aspiring singer, newly-arrived in Minneapolis - for his girl group, and tries to persuade her that the Kid will never help her establish herself because he can't even establish himself. Apollonia eventually relents and joins Morris' group, which Morris names Apollonia 6. When she reveals her partnership with his rival to the Kid, he becomes furious and slaps her, mirroring his father's actions.
