Raanjhanaa (English: Beloved One) is a 2013 Indian romantic drama film, directed by Anand L. Rai and written by Himanshu Sharma. The film is produced by Krishika Lulla under the banner Eros International. It stars Dhanush, in his Bollywood debut, Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol in lead roles. The film was released on 21 June 2013 worldwide, while the dubbed Tamil version titled Ambikapathy was released a week later. The dialogues for the Tamil version was written by John Mahendran.

The background score and songs were composed by A. R. Rahman. The Hindi lyrics of the tracks were penned by Irshad Kamil, whereas the Tamil lyrics were written by Vairamuthu.

Within a week of release, the film's collections reached ₹349 million (US$5 3 million) domestic nett. The film was declared a hit by Box Office India. Post four weeks of its run, the film grossed over ₹1200 million (US$18 million) worldwide.

Synopsis

Kundan Shankar (Dhanush) is the only son of a Tamil Hindu parents settled in Varanasi. Since his childhood, Kundan has had a strong and obsessive one-sided love for Zoya Haider (Sonam Kapoor), a Muslim girl residing in the same neighborhood. He always attempts to be around her but gets slapped several times in the process. Zoya finally changes her mind because of Kundan's consistency of affection. Her family is orthodox, preventing the lovers from being together. After Zoya moves to Aligarh for further studies, Kundan harmonizes with Zoya's family, assisting them with chores. Zoya gets into Jawaharlal Nehru University and discovers a long-lost strength as she confronts and then falls for student leader Akram Zaidi (Abhay Deol).

The film begins in a fantasy sequence taking place in Madhumitha's (Amyra Dastur) imagination as she shares the story with her psychiatrist, Dr. Radhika (Lena): Munaruna (Dhanush) is a Tamil worker in Burma. His friend Saamuda (Jagan) falls in love with Mallika (Aishwarya Devan), but Mallika loves Munaruna instead. Munaruna saves Samudra (Amyra Dastur), the daughter of a Burmese army general, from a Ferris wheel accident and they fall in love. When Mallika learns about this, she is devastated and marries Saamuda. The Burmese general disapproves of the union between Munaruna and Samudra, and revokes the privileges that the Tamil immigrants had until then. Violence breaks out and the Tamil nationals flee Burma. Munaruna and Samudra also join the refugees on on a ship along with Saamuda and Mallika. When Samudra's father comes looking for her, Mallika spitefully reveals where they are hiding. As Samudra and Munaruna try to escape by diving into the ocean, Munaruna is shot and killed. Samudra drowns after promising to be together forever.

In Madrid in 1980, Enrique Goded, a young film director, is looking for his next project when he receives the unexpected visit of an actor looking for work. Le film raconte l’histoire d'Olga Benário Prestes (Camila Morgado). Née à Munich en Allemagne en 1908 de parents juifs. Olga devient une militante communiste. En 1934, quand Luís Carlos Prestes retourne au Brésil, désigné par l'Internacional Communista (le Mouvement communiste international) pour diriger une révolution armée, Olga est désignée pour l’escorter. Bien sûr, pour survivre, ils doivent se cacher et vivre en clandestins tout en s’organisant pour déstabiliser le gouvernement de Getúlio Vargas (Osmar Prado). Pendant cette période, la relation amoureuse entre Olga et Prestes s’affirme et elle tombe enceinte en 1935.
