Raavan is a 2010 Indian thriller film directed, written and produced by Mani Ratnam. It stars Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Vikram in the lead roles while Govinda, Ravi Kishan, Nikhil Dwivedi, Priyamani and Tejaswini Kolhapure feature in key supporting roles. This film was the Bollywood debut of Vikram. It was simultaneously released in Tamil as Raavanan with a slightly different cast, which would also be dubbed into Telugu and other regional languages. The film's score and soundtrack is composed by A. R. Rahman. The film was released on 18 June 2010. The film's premiere was held in London on 16 June 2010. The film received negative reviews and was a box-office flop, which was a much different result compared to the tamil version.
Synopsis
The film opens with shots showing Beera Munda (Abhishek Bachchan), a bandit, jumping off a cliff into the water. His gang is busy distracting the police and a few police vehicles are set ablaze.Actors

The film opens with shots showing Veeraiya (Vikram) jumping off a cliff into water. His gang is busy distracting the police. Police vehicles are set ablaze and women seduce policemen into a trap whereby Veera's henchmen attack. The police are ruthlessly murdered. Raagini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), whilst on a boating trip, is kidnapped by Veera. Dev Prakash (Prithviraj Sukumaran), her husband and a senior police officer, is informed of the incident.

The beginning of the film is set in 1951 in a small village of Idar in Sabarkantha district, northern Gujarat, a young man named Gurukant "Guru" Desai (Abhishek Bachchan) dreams of making it big some day. His father (Rajendra Gupta), the headmaster of the village school, tells him not to dream and that dreams never come true. Gurukant decides to go to Turkey and enter the spice trade; later, he is promoted but refuses the job, as he wants to work for himself. Back in his village, he marries Sujata (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), mainly because of the dowry she brings him. Along with Sujata and her brother Jignesh (Arya Babbar), Guru migrates to Bombay and starts trading in cloth. Gradually, he expands his business and sets up manufacturing units of his own, under the name "Shakti Corporation".

Lallan Singh (Abhishek Bachchan) is a goon, originally from Bihar but settled in Kolkata, West Bengal because his brother Gopal Singh (Sonu Sood) has left him alone and he had no option of earning back home. He loves, marries and abuses his wife, Shashi Biswas (Rani Mukerji). Michael Mukherjee (Ajay Devgan) is an influential student leader who wants politicians like Prosenjit Bhattacharya (Om Puri) to keep away from college elections. Michael is in love with his neighbour Radhika (Esha Deol) who lives with her uncle and aunt. And then there is Arjun (Vivek Oberoi), carefree and spoiled son of an IAS officer. He wants to relocate to the U.S. for a better future. He falls in love with Mira (Kareena Kapoor), whom he just met. One day, Arjun and Mira get into a quarrel on the road and Mira gets into an auto. Arjun gets lift from Michael to catch up with Mira, who is going that way. Suddenly, Michael is hit by a bullet and he is saved by Arjun. After talking to Michael, Arjun changes his mind and wants to be a politician. Prosenjit is worried when he hears news of students standing in the election. He uses every possible way to get them out of Politics.Firstly he provides scholarship of a prestigious foreign university to Michael. When Michael refuses the bribe, he orders his goon Gopal Singh to take control. Gopal beats some students but faces very strong retaliation from Michael and his fellow students. After that Lallan Singh takes charge and kills Gopal. He kidnaps Arjun and other candidates. However, they manage to escape with the help of Lallan Singh's ally. Lallan follows Arjun and beats him up. While running, Arjun manages to call Michael for help. He comes to rescue Arjun at Howrah Bridge.

Set in the 1950s, the film begins with Anandan (Mohanlal), a struggling actor, seeking opportunities which will give him a big break in the film industry. Under his uncle's help, Anandan is given an opportunity to audition for the lead role in a forthcoming film. Amar Kant Varma (Shahrukh Khan) is a Program executive for All India Radio. He is dispatched from New Delhi to cover festivities in Northeast India. On his way there, during a rainy night, Amar stops at Haflong train station to catch Baraks Valley express, as the train runs late, Amar meets a mysterious woman by herself who asks him for a cup of tea. When he returns with the tea, he watches her board the next train with three male passengers. Later, Amar spots the same woman in Silchar. He attempts to talk to her but she says she cannot recall meeting him before. As part of his news reporting assignment, for the occasion of fifty years of Indian Independence, Amar interviews many citizens of Barak Valley, and an extremist leader, who claim that the reason behind human rights violations, and poverty in the region is due to Indian Government, and that the Liberationists do not wish to enter into any dialogue with the government, and further justify their resistance in Utthar Purv.

He comes to rescue Arjun at Napier Bridge. Then Inba is handed to the police. Michael wins the four seats he and his college mates have contested for. Sashi leaves for her hometown while Inba remains in prison hoping not to get the capital punishment. Michael, Arjun and two friends enter into politics.
