Saint-Just et la Force des choses est un téléfilm dramatique français en deux parties (La Victoire et La Mort) réalisé par Pierre Cardinal en 1974, diffusé en 1975, d’après l’ouvrage historique éponyme d’Albert Ollivier.

Synopsis

Le film débute en 1790 à Blérancourt, petit village de Picardie, où le jeune et ardent Saint-Just rêve d'aller à Paris, au cœur des événements révolutionnaires, pour y continuer son combat pour les idées nouvelles, aux côtés de Robespierre qu’il admire. Élu en août 1792 à la Convention, il y retrouve Robespierre et la Montagne, et ses talents d’orateur et d’homme politique sont vite remarqués, par la gauche comme par la droite.

In Vienna, 15-year-old Marie Antoinette (Norma Shearer) is informed by her mother, Empress Marie Therese of Austria (Alma Kruger), that Marie is to marry the future King of France, the Dauphin Louis XVI (Robert Morley). Just before the French Revolution, Henriette takes her close adopted sister Louise to Paris in the hope of finding a cure for her blindness. An honorable aristocrat, the Chevalier de Vaudrey helps Henriette to escape de Praille and his guests by successfully fighting a duel with him. The scoundrel Mother Frochard, seeing an opportunity to make money, tricks Louise into her underground house to be kept prisoner. Unable to find Louise with the help of the Chevalier, Henriette rents a room, but before leaving her de Vaudrey comforts and kisses the distressed woman. Later, Henriette gives shelter to admirable politician Danton, who after an attack by Royalist spies following a public speech falls for her. As a result, she runs foul of the radical revolutionary Robespierre, a friend of Danton.
