Synopsis
Twelve-year-old Pip Lawson is obsessed with watching outer space from her telescope. One day when she's watching from a nearby dock, local bully Rhonnie Bronston stops by with her dog. They get into a heated conversation in which Pip leaves with her telescope but forgets her walkman, which Rhonnie leaves with. When Pip returns home she discovers that a strange new family has moved into the house next door. Strange noises come from the shed, causing Pip to not be able to get to sleep. The next day Pip and her friend Ben Handlemen walk to the park were Rhonnie and her pose are. When Pip sees Rhonnie with her walkman she tries to take it back, but she threatens to let her dog on her. The children then notice the new girl "Sally Marshall" hanging upside down on the playground reading a book and eating a tomato the size of a grapefruit. Rhonnie starts talking about how she must be an alien, and all the kids except for Pip and Ben agree. Pip tells Rhonnie how stupid that is, and that aliens don't exist. Rhonnie then makes a bet with Pip that she has one week to prove that the Marshalls are not aliens or she will get her telescope, which Pip agrees to.Actors

After an aboriginal tomb is opened by archaeologist (Arthur Dignam), his daughter, a doctor (Penny Cook) treats a young aboriginal girl (Kristina Nehm) in a hospital emergency room for some unspecified injury.The girl dies and immediately afterwards the attending doctor begins to have bad dreams and waking visions of a horrible past event in aboriginal history.These threatening images from the Dreamtime involve a group of whalers who came ashore two centuries earlier to rape and murder a defenseless aboriginal tribe. This event formed a taint or stain within the Dreaming. Now incorporated into the spiritual landscape, the evil spirits of these murderers roam the imaginal realm seeking whom they may destroy. When teenagers Josh (Louis Corbett) and Ling (Li Lin Jin) join their respective parents, Chris (Sam Neill) and Dr. Li (Wang Ji) on an archaeological dig in China they encounter something trapped beneath a temple beyond their wildest imagination. A real live Chinese dragon. Two thousand years earlier, to defend his kingdom, the dragon lent an emperor his all powerful pearl. Instead of being returned the pearl was buried with the emperor beneath his palace, and helpless without its source of power the dragon has remained entombed ever since. With the Dragon Pearl buried on the excavation site, Josh and Ling implore their parents for help, but met with disbelief the children realize they must find the pearl on their own. However thereʼs one who does believe them: archaeologist Philip Dukas (Robert Mammone), who wants to seize the pearlʼs awesome power for his own sinister ambitions. The only way to stop him is for Josh and Ling to get to it first and return it to its rightful owner.

The story begins in Sydney, Australia, where Napoleon aka "Muffin", is living with a human family and his own mother. Napoleon wishes to be with the wild dogs he can hear howling in the distance. The family has a birthday party and one of the decorations is a basket with balloons strapped to it. Out of curiosity, Napoleon hops inside but the basket, untied from its tether begins to float.
