Samsara is a 2001 independent Indian/Italian/French/German film which tells the story of a Buddhist monk's quest to find Enlightenment. The film stars Shawn Ku as the monk Tashi, and Christy Chung as Pema. It was directed by Pan Nalin and written by Pan and Tim Baker.
The film's plot is reminiscent of the story of the sage Vishvamitra and the apsara Menaka.
Samsara was awarded "Audience Award for The Most Popular Film" by the 51st Melbourne International Film Festival, among other awards from other festivals, and made it to top ten films in Italy and France.
Synopsis
Tashi (Shawn Ku) began his training as a Buddhist monk at the age of five. Twenty years later, he emerges from a three year solitary meditation, for which he is awarded the degree of khenpo by the rinpoche. When Tashi begins to have wet dreams his relationships at the temple become strained. On an official visit, he stays with a farmer and meets Pema, the farmer's daughter. He leaves monastic life, returning to the farm, where he joins the migrant workers for the harvest. After another encounter with Pema, they marry. They later have a son, Karma(Tenzin Tashi).Actors

A gang of bandits with their leader Jalan (Milind Soman) who have chosen to live an independent life free from oppression amid the wilderness live by plundering the travelers of the Silk Route of their merchandise. They have their own rules and sense of self-righteousness. While divesting victims of their valuables one day, they come across a demonic mask which intrigues Jalan. There amid the chaos, the bandits are suddenly caught unaware by the approach of a woman who calls herself Ushna (Mylene Jampanoi) who claims to know Jalan, having seen him in her dreams and asks him to let her come along. Jalan, in spite of his companions' warnings includes the woman in their band as he is already mesmerized by her unearthly beauty and mysterious and uncanny aura.

Karma, a young Tibetan woman from New York City comes to Dharamsala, the exile headquarters of the Dalai Lama in India, in search of her roots. She is making a documentary film about former political prisoners who have escaped from Tibet. One of her interviewees is the recently arrived Dhondup. He reveals to her that his dying mother had made him promise to deliver an old charm box to an exile Tibetan named Loga, and appeals to her for help in locating the man.

A young government official named Dondup (played by Tshewang Dendup) who is smitten with America (he even has a denim gho) dreams of escaping there while stuck in a beautiful but isolated village. Milarépa naquit au Tibet, au XI siècle, au sein d’une famille de riches marchands. À sa mort, son père confie l'héritage de la famille à son frère jusqu’à l'entrée de Milarépa dans la vie adulte. Pourtant, l’oncle s’approprie l'héritage et exploite la mère et la jeune sœur de Milarépa. Désespérée, sa mère veut se venger de cette injustice. Elle vend son dernier champ, et envoie Milarépa auprès de Yongten Trogyal, un maître de magie noire. Il jette un sortilège et détruit une partie du village, tuant environ 30 personnes. La foule en colère le poursuit. Milarépa trouve refuge auprès d’un moine, et tandis que sa mère se rejouit de la vengeance accomplie, il est rongé par le remords. C’est alors qu’il reçoit un conseil qui changera sa vie : « Les ennemis naissent de ton esprit; Pour les vaincre, cesse les actions négatives, Cultive les actions positives, et Maîtrise ton esprit ».

In the South Pacific in 1944, U.S. Marine Corporal Allison (Robert Mitchum) and his reconnaissance party had been in the process of disembarking from a U.S. Navy submarine when they were discovered and fired upon by the Japanese. The submarine's captain was forced to dive and leave the scouting team behind. Allison got to a rubber raft and after days adrift, reaches an island.
