Shodh is a 1979 Bollywood ghost movie directed by Biplab Roy Chowdhury,and produced by Sitakant Misra, based on the Bengali book Gorom Bhat O Nichhok Bhooter Goppo (Steaming Rice and a Ghost Story) by Sunil Gangopadhyay.

Synopsis

Surendra (Om Puri), having been exiled from his village in youth and established himself in the city, comes back to the news of his father's demise, reportedly at the hands of a phantom. He announces a prize for anyone who succeeds in showing him a ghost, which attracts the greed of the poor hungry peasants, resulting in the accusations of innocent people as haunted and even murders with the hope of producing a ghost.

Après le décès de son père, en pleine période de Noël, Catherine hérite de sa vieille maison isolée en Norvège. Pourtant, elle souhaite vite la vendre pour s'éloigner des souvenirs de son enfance. Loin de son compagnon Marcus, elle se rend compte très vite que l'atmosphère est pesante dans la demeure et dans les alentours surtout lorsque les habitants de la région lui parlent de meurtres qui se sont déroulés dans les années 1950. . Une vieille femme lui raconte l'histoire de la petite disparition d'une petite fille de 7 ans, Marie, qui n'est d'autre que la sœur de sa propre mère dont elle ignorait l'existence. Après avoir entendu d'étranges bruits dans la maison, Catherine pense qu'elle est hantée et veut s'en débarrasser le plus rapidement possible. Mais, soudainement, elle rencontre une mystérieuse petite fille, Daisy, qui rôde autour de la bâtisse. Alors que Marcus s'inquiète du comportement troublant de sa fiancée, Catherine devient l'amie de l'enfant qui se révèle très vite être un fantôme.

Baron von Rhoneberg (Jean Servais), a former World War II German general, sacrificed his daughter as the war ended. This condemned his family to be placed under a terrible curse. Ebenezer Scrooge (Albert Finney) is a cold-hearted and greedy old miser whose only concern is money and profit and hates everything to do with Christmas. After Scrooge scares off a group of boys who were singing a carol outside his door, his nephew Fred (Michael Medwin) arrives to invite him to Christmas dinner with his wife and friends. Scrooge, however, refuses. After Fred leaves, Scrooge gives his clerk Bob Cratchit (David Collings) the next day off as it is Christmas, but he expects him back all the earlier the next morning. Bob meets two of his children, including Tiny Tim (Richard Beaumont), in the streets, and they buy the food for their Christmas dinner. Scrooge, meanwhile, is surveyed by two other men (Derek Francis and Roy Kinnear) for a donation for the poor but Scrooge refuses to support the prisons and workhouses and even says "if they rather die, then they better do it and decrease the surplus population." On his way home, Scrooge meets some of his clients, including Tom Jenkins (Anton Rogers), and reminds them the debts they owe him. In a running gag, Scrooge is stalked and being made fun of by the same street urchins seen at the start of the film, calling him "Father Christmas.
