Step Brothers is a 2008 American buddy slapstick comedy film starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. The screenplay was written by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, from a story written by them with Reilly. It was produced by Jimmy Miller and Judd Apatow, and directed by McKay.

The film was released on July 25, 2008, two years after the same group of men wrote, produced, and starred in another comedy, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

Synopsis

39-year-old Brennan Huff (Will Ferrell) and 40-year-old Dale Doback (John C. Reilly) are two unemployed, middle-aged, spoiled, offensive, and self-centered men who still live with (and are reliant on) their parents. They have no intention of moving out or finding jobs and behave childishly. When Brennan's mother Nancy (Mary Steenburgen) and Dale's father Robert (Richard Jenkins) marry, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers.

Detective Allen Gamble is a mild-mannered forensic accountant. Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) is a 25-year-old process server and habitual pot smoker. He makes a visit to the home of his drug dealer, Saul Silver (James Franco), to buy weed. Saul tells him that he may already know the identity of Dale's next service, Ted Jones (Gary Cole). Dale drives to Ted's house and witnesses Ted and a cop, Officer Carol Brazier (Rosie Perez), shoot an Asian man to death. Dale panics and flees the area, but leaves his roach at the scene which contains a rare strain of marijuana called Pineapple Express. Frustrated that her boyfriend of four years, Jeremy, still has not proposed to her, Anna Brady, from Boston, travels to Dublin, Ireland to propose to him on February 29, leap day, while he is there at an international cardiologists' conference. According to Irish tradition, a man who is proposed to on leap day must accept the proposal. During the flight, a storm diverts the plane to Cardiff in Wales. Anna hires a boat to take her to Cork, but the severity of the storm forces her to be put ashore on the Dingle Peninsula. She enlists the help of a surly Irish innkeeper, Declan O'Callaghan, to taxi her across the country to Dublin to pull off the proposal in time. Meanwhile, her clumsiness in her room at the inn accidentally causes a power failure to the local village but also opens up the plot of Declans backstory and introduces the idea of a lost love from the picture that Anna finds in the armor, causing distress from Declan and making it become more intriquing. This causes Anna to later bring up his past relationships as insult.

In 1974, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) is the famous anchorman for a local San Diego television station, fictional KVWN channel 4.
