Lors d'une soirée comme les autres, Trixie rejoint le cinéma où elle travaille comme ouvreuse pour lancer une séance du célèbre Rocky Horror Picture Show. One year after the events of the first film, Mitchie Torres and her mother Connie are going to Camp Rock for another summer camp year. When they arrived at Camp Rock, Mitchie reunites with her camp friends, Caitlyn, Ella, Peggy and Tess. Meanwhile, Shane Gray and his brothers Nate and Jason are lost in the road when their Connect 3 tour bus broke down and crashed into the bottom of the lake, as they heading to Camp Rock. Back at Camp Rock, Mitchie and her friends, along with Mitchie's other friends Sander and Barry performs ("Brand New Day"), until Shane and his brothers arrives in a farm truck. Mitchie and Shane decides to spend the summer at the camp together and they know each other better.

Tom Baker (Martin) is a football coach at a small rural college in Midland, Indiana, where he raised twelve children, and his wife, Kate (Hunt), has written about her story in a book and hopes to send it to her friend to publish it. At the film's beginning, Tom unexpectedly receives an offer from his old friend and football teammate, Shake McGuire (Jenkins), to coach at his alma mater in Evanston, Illinois. Tom accepts the offer, and he and Kate begin making their plans on moving to Evanston. All twelve children find out and demand the move be put to a vote, even though Tom says it would not have any power. Tom loses the vote, even after he and Kate join, but goes ahead with the move anyway, claiming there will be more money and that they will be a "happier and stronger family". However, the atmosphere at the Bakers' new house is tense, and the situation at school for the children is even worse, although their new neighbors' the Shenks seem allright, especially their first and only son, Dylan.

The story begins in traditional video style, as several of the film's characters are recorded and asked a series of questions about why they dance. The film then cuts to Moose (Adam G. Sevani) and Camille (Alyson Stoner) who attend New York University. Moose is majoring in electrical engineering after promising his father that he would not dance anymore. While touring the campus, he sees a pair of Limited Edition Gun Metal Nike Dunks worn by Luke Katcher (Rick Malambri). Moose follows the shoes and then accidentally stumbles upon a dance battle, where he beats Kid Darkness (Daniel Campos) from the dancing crew "House of Samurai". Luke takes him back to his place, an old warehouse converted into a club. Luke shows Moose the House of Pirates, his dance crew, where he later teams up with them to compete in the World Jam dance contest against their rivals, the House of Samurai dance crew. But then, Jacob (Keith Stallworth), a member of House of Pirates, informs Luke that the warehouse will be put up for auction if the overdue rents are not made.
