Originally released in 1997, the series is a pastiche of the American television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the first Power Rangers series, and, by extension, the Japanese Super Sentai series Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, which formed the basis for Mighty Morphin.
Programmes from the two franchises had been broadcast, dubbed into Filipino or Tagalog, along with various other tokusatsu programmes, in the Philippines since the late 70s. The various series were popular enough to spawn imitators and pastiches, including Super Ranger Kids. The key difference between Kids and its inspiration is that the primary hero characters are ten to twelve years old as opposed to teenagers or young adults. However, the influence from Power Rangers is obvious even in the logo, with the use of a similar font and the distinctive "lightning bolt" design.

Dragon Nine, an imperial detective, is on his way back after concluding the case of the Thief Ghost. On a distant planet, a wizard named Lerigot is being hunted by Divatox; an intergalactic space pirate, who seeks his golden key in order to traverse an inter-dimensional gateway and enter into matrimony with Maligore, a demon who promises to grant her great riches and power. Truck driver Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) and his friend, restaurant owner Wang Chi (Dennis Dun), go to the airport to pick up Wang's fiancée Miao Yin (Suzee Pai), who is arriving from China. A Chinese street gang, the Lords of Death, tries to kidnap another Chinese girl at the airport who is being met by her friend Gracie Law (Kim Cattrall), intending to sell her as a sex slave. After Jack intervenes, they take Miao Yin instead. In Jack's big-rig truck, he and Wang track the Lords of Death to the back alleys of Chinatown, where they find a funeral procession that quickly erupts into a street fight between the Chang Sing and Wing Kong, two ancient Chinese societies. When "The Three Storms" (Thunder, Rain, and Lightning) appear, slaughtering the Chang Sing, Jack tries to escape but runs over Lo Pan (James Hong), a powerful and legendary sorcerer, as well as the leader of the Wing Kong. Horrified, Jack exits his truck, only to find Lo Pan, who is merely annoyed. Wang hurriedly guides Jack through the alleys, escaping the carnage and mayhem, but Jack's truck is stolen.

In 1943 Tibet, a Tibetan monk is informed that he has fulfilled the prophecies made of him, which include forgoing his name. He is then entrusted by his master with the protection of a Scroll which contains knowledge by which the reader becomes the most powerful of living things, a protection that will keep him youthful and immunize him to injury until, at the close of 60 years, he must pass the knowledge to an heir. The master, who has formerly been the guardian of this Scroll, is killed by German soldiers shortly after the transfer. His pupil, the now nameless Monk, escapes the Nazis.

Advertising company staff Mo Tak-fai and his friend Lai Chi are going to mainland China for a business trip during which Chi smuggled some relics which leads them being chased by the police and they strayed into a cave. Chi was bitten by a poisonous snake in the cave but was saved by medicine from hero Lung Kim-fei from centuries ago and shares it with Tak-fai. Not only does the medicine detoxifies Chi, it also gave Tak-fai and Chi internal strengths. There, they also rescue Princess Wan-lo and her maid Siu-man who were frozen for eight hundred years from the Yuan Dynasty while also allowing two-hundred-year-old evil martial arts expert Tin-chan escape.
