Synopsis
Bill "Cyclone" Hickey, un boxeur amateur, est la risée du public, mais c'est un héros pour Mamie Judd, un jeune ouvrière qui vit sur le même palier que lui dans la pension de Maggie Callahan. Mamie convainc le journaliste sportif Johnny Trump de prendre ses économies et de devenir l'entraîneur de Bill. Mais, après quelques victoires, Cyclone prend la grosse tête et insulte Johnny et Mme Callahan. Ils décident de le laisser tomber et il commence à perdre ses combats. Mme Callahan, malade, entend à la radio la retransmission d'un combat que Bill est en train de perdre. Elle implore Johnny d'aller au bord du ring et de le conseiller. Bill gagne le combat et se marie avec Mamie.Actors

The film tells about a Japanese door-to-door insurance salesman, Tsuda Yoshiharu, who takes up boxing after some chance meetings with a former high school friend, Kojima Yakuji. Tsuda lives a more or less uneventful life. He has a fiance, Hizuru, who one day invites Kojima in to Tsuda's apartment. Kojima comes onto Hizuru, who rejects him. Still, Tsuda finds out and gets enraged at Kojima, but Kojima beats Tsuda to a pulp and humiliates him to the point where it strains his relationship with Hizuru. Hizuru is intrigued by the animalistic Kojima, and ends up moving in with him. She also starts to pierce herself and get tattoos. She wants to box, but is denied that life by the surprisingly cowardly Kojima, who says she is a scary freak of a woman.

Rocky "The Italian Stallion" Balboa is a hard-living, but failing prize fighter from an Italian neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Set between 1910 and 1915, the story follows Jack Jefferson (James Earl Jones; patterned after real-life boxer Jack Johnson) going on a hot streak of victories in the boxing ring as he defeats every white boxer around.
