Add to a movie listThe Demon's Rook is a 2013 independent fantasy-horror film and the directorial debut of James Sizemore (who is also known under the pseudonym of Loup'Rah Garomore). The film had its world premiere on July 27, 2013 at the Fantasia Film Festival and stars Sizemore as Roscoe, a young man that must find a way to stop demons from overtaking the world. Funding for The Demon's Rook was partially received through crowdsourcing websites Kickstarter and Indiegogo.
Synopsis
When he was a child Roscoe (James Sizemore and Emmett Eckert) was frequently visited by Dimwos (John Chatham), an elder demon that would visit Roscoe at night. One day Dimwos lures Roscoe into a portal that takes him to a strange world where Dimwos teaches Roscoe various things, including his ancient language. Dimwos withholds nothing from Roscoe, save one single secret that ends up becoming Roscoe's downfall when he releases three especially deadly and evil demons. Roscoe manages to flee by crossing back through the portal to the human world but ends up taking the three demons with him. Once back in the human world, Roscoe recollects his previous human existence and the childhood friend he left behind, Eva (Ashleigh Jo Sizemore), who has grown into a beautiful woman. This all causes conflict within Roscoe, as this clashes with what Dimwos had led him to believe. Now Roscoe must track down the three demons and battle them into submission while also trying to deal with the evil they're unleashing on the unsuspecting world.Comments

Al Simmons (Michael Jai White) is a special forces agent and black ops soldier. Jason Wynn (Martin Sheen), head of the covert government agency for which Simmons works, assigns him to infiltrate a biochemical weapons plant in North Korea. Unbeknownst to Simmons, Wynn has ordered his top assassin, Jessica Priest (Melinda Clarke), to murder him while he is on his mission. After Simmons dies in a gas fire, he arrives in Hell, where the demon king Malebolgia (Frank Welker), offers him a Faustian deal: if Simmons becomes his eternal servant and leader of his army in Armageddon, he will be able to return to Earth to see his fiancée, Wanda Blake. Simmons accepts the offer and returns to Earth.

Casper Galloway, an overly cautious boy, has become afraid of anything dangerous since the day his father died at the Occult Barn, his grandfather's shop. When his grandfather Horus receives a lifetime achievement award, Casper mans the shop so Horus can collect the trophy. Horus warns "no-one is to come within spit distance" of an urn kept on a high shelf topped with a skull; Horus's father imprisoned a malevolent spirit inside the urn and it will curse the person that lets it out. The girl Casper has a crush on visits and he tries impressing her with a free purchase for loyal patronage to the Occult Barn. However, more of their friends arrive. Casper takes down the urn to show off to the girl and clumsily drops it. Casper tries warning them of the danger, but they laugh at him. Skeptical, they invent a curse: anyone with whom they make eye contact after 10pm (since Midnight is cliche) kills themselves and comes back as a "zemon", a zombie possessed by the evil spirit. The zemons spread their infection through hickeys rather than bites, and those infected kill themselves and become zemons. They are given till morning to undue the curse. However, they were too stupid to come up with an easy way to break the curse.

After being pulled through a time portal, Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) lands in A.D. 1300, where he is soon captured by Lord Arthur's (Marcus Gilbert) men, who suspect him to be an agent for Duke Henry (Richard Grove), with whom Arthur is at war. He is enslaved along with the captured Henry, his gun and chainsaw confiscated, and is taken to a castle. Ash is thrown in a pit where he fights off a Deadite and regains his weapons from Arthur's Wise Man (Ian Abercrombie). After demanding Henry and his men be set free (as he knew Henry was innocent, and his persecution was simply a witch hunt) and killing a deadite in full view of everyone, Ash is celebrated as a hero. He also grows attracted to Sheila (Embeth Davidtz), the sister of one of Arthur's fallen knights.

The film opens in the utopian future that results from the music of Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves). Chuck De Nomolos (Joss Ackland), who detests this society, steals one of the time-traveling phone booths and sends two robots modeled after Bill and Ted to the late 20th century, with the intent to prevent Bill and Ted from winning the San Dimas Battle of the Bands. Rufus (George Carlin) attempts to stop De Nomolos but becomes lost in the circuits of time.

At a government laboratory in rural California, a weaponized version of influenza (called Project Blue) is accidentally released, immediately wiping out everyone on staff except for military policeman Charles Campion and his family, who flee the base. However, Campion is already infected by the superflu, nicknamed "Captain Trips", and spreads it to the outside world. That evening, Campion crashes his car at a gas station in East Texas where Stu Redman (Gary Sinise) and some friends have gathered. When they investigate, they find Campion dying of the flu next to his wife and baby daughter, who are already dead. Campion tells Stu with his dying breath that he was followed from the base by a mysterious figure, and states "You can't outrun the Dark Man". The next day, the U.S. military arrive to quarantine the town. While the other townspeople quickly become ill and die, Stu remains healthy and is confined at a CDC facility in Vermont order to study a possible cure. This proves futile and the superflu rages unchecked, causing civilization to collapse and killing over 99% of the population of the entire world in less than two months.

During Christmas 1955, an 11-year-old Hellboy is told a bedtime story by his adoptive father, Trevor Broom, involving an ancient war between man and magical creatures, started by man's greed. After defeat of the magical creatures' forces, the master of the goblin blacksmiths offers to build an indestructible mechanical army for the elven King Balor. Encouraged by his son Prince Nuada, Balor orders the building of this Golden Army. The humans are devastated by the army. Balor is ridden with guilt and forms a truce with the humans: Man will keep his cities and the magical creatures will keep their forests. Nuada does not agree with the truce and leaves in exile. The magical crown controlling the army is broken into three pieces, one going to the humans and the other two kept by the elves.

Four young adults – Dave, Susan, Jim, and Jim's girlfriend, Vicki – head into the woods to look for a lost scientist, Dr. Arthur Waterman. The friends have a picnic and glimpse a mysterious castle in the woods. They find that Dr. Waterman's cabin seems to have been destroyed. A forest ranger, who is Asmodeus in human form, watches over the teenagers. When the group stumbles into a cave, a strange old man presents them with an ancient book filled with magical lore and symbols. Asmodeus sends monsters – a giant ape-like creature and a green-skinned, fur-clad giant – to retrieve the book from them at all costs. The ape-like creature kills the old man. The castle seems to have disappeared, however the friends discover that it has been rendered invisible by magic.
