L'Employé (El dependiente) est un film argentin réalisé par Leonardo Favio, sorti en 1969. Adapté d'un récit de Jorge Zuhair Jury, frère du réalisateur, c'est un drame simple et poétique sur la vie provinciale. Il a reçu la Catalina d'or du meilleur film lors du neuvième Festival de Carthagène.

Synopsis

Dans un petit village argentin, Fernández est l'employé de la quincaillerie du vieux don Vila. Il tombe amoureux de la belle mademoiselle Plasini, et se met à espérer la mort de son patron pour hériter de la boutique.

Nazareno Cruz is a young farmer living in a rural town. He is known for being the seventh son of his father, and so he is seen by the locals as the victim of the werewolf curse. Despite this he lives happily in the community. When Nazareno is about to turn 18 he meets Griselda and they both fall in love. Soon after, "Mandinga" (the Devil) presents himself to Nazareno and explains that his curse is real. Mandinga makes Nazareno a proposition: if Nazareno gives up his love, he will receive in exchange his freedom and many riches. Nazareno refuses the deal and eventually turns into a werewolf, becoming involved in a series of tragedies.

Polin is an eleven-year-old troublemaker in reform school for unknown reasons. After suffering from harsh treatment at the hands of the staff there, Polin finally reaches a breaking point and snaps, punching one of the supervisors in the face. He is then sent to the police station where he is locked up in a cell and left alone. Polin soon breaks out and travels back to his hometown, a rural fishing village, where he meets up with his best friend and falls back into his old routine—smoking, pickpocketing, shoplifting, skinny dipping with his friends and picking fights with the neighborhood bullies—all the while trying to avoid a run-in with the law, which he knows is inevitable.

Les fait sont relatés à partir de 1916 dans le contexte de la première guerre mondiale, la révolution russe et l'élection du premier président élu démocratiquement en Argentine : Hipólito Yrigoyen.
