The Ghost Breaker is a 1922 American silent comedy horror film about haunted houses and ghosts. It was produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed through Paramount Pictures. It was directed by Alfred E. Green and starred Wallace Reid in one of his last screen roles. The story, based on the 1909 play The Ghost Breaker by Paul Dickey and Charles W. Goddard, had been filmed in 1914 also called The Ghost Breaker by Cecil B. DeMille and Oscar Apfel. The film would be made again in the sound era as The Ghost Breakers (1940) with Bob Hope and Paulette Goddard and as Scared Stiff (1953) starring Jerry Lewis.

The 1922 version is now considered lost.

Heythorp is an old ship owner who finds himself on the verge of bankruptcy. He worries about his grandchildren, who are currently being taken care of by the miserly Mrs. Larne, the widowed wife of his son. She asks Heythorp for money, but suspecting that she will use the money on herself, he refuses. Although Heythorp is being hounded by creditors, he manages to get a loan using some shady dealings for which he may be prosecuted. Heythorp wants to use this money for an investment which will provide an independent allowance for his beloved grandchildren, Jock and Phyllis, that can not be touched by the greedy Mrs. Larne. Although he manages to arrange everything so he can die in peace, he is uncovered and threatened with exposure. In the end, Heythorp manages to escape punishment for his underhanded scheme.

Kitty Bellairs (Claudia Dell), a famous flirt of her day, comes to Bath for the season. Early on in the film she declares that "in spite of her thirty or forty affairs, I've lost not a bit of my virtue." Her path is strewn with a number of conquests, including an enamored highwayman, a lord and some others who hang on her every word. A highwayman stops her coach as she is on her way to Bath and is immediately raptured by Kitty Bellairs. He trades the loot from the passengers for a kiss from Kitty who feels she should "yield" in order to protect Lord Varney's (Walter Pidgeon) life who has gallantly come to defend her honor.
