Golden Madonna is a 1949 British drama film directed by Ladislao Vajda and starring Phyllis Calvert, Tullio Carminati and Michael Rennie. It is considered a lost film and is on the BFI 75 Most Wanted list. Filmed on location, a group of original negatives and contact prints taken by Francis Goodman are in the possession of London's National Portrait Gallery.

Synopsis

A young British woman who owns a villa in Italy offends the village she lives in by throwing away a painting that they consider lucky. To redeem herself she goes out in search to try to recover it.

Jacinto est un torero déchu, sans emploi, qui rêve de revenir dans l'arène. Il habite un bidonville de la banlieue de Madrid avec le neveu orphelin qu'il a recueilli, Pepote, sept ans, qui lui témoigne une affection et une admiration sans bornes. Mais il lui en faut 300 pour louer un « habit de lumière ». Pepote et Jacinto vont passer toute la journée dans les rues de Madrid à chercher à réunir la somme, en bravant les humiliations, les moments de désespoir, l'indifférence des bourgeois, en se laissant compromettre dans des arnaques minables. Seul rayon d'espoir dans cette misère, le touchant sourire de Pepote.

The three films follow the same basic plot, where a senior police detective is attached to elucidate the murder of a little girl. As the detective hopes for leads while talking with the mother of the murdered girl, he pledges to find her killer – and so, even after leaving the police force, he embarks upon buying a gasoline shop in the remote area where he hopes to find the criminal, and uses a little girl as bait to attract the killer. His trap is ultimately successful in ensnaring the murderer.
