Le film s'inspire de la vie d'Um Hong-gil en se concentrant principalement sur l'entraînement de deux autres alpinistes qui décéderont au cours d'une ascension.

Synopsis
Au cours d'une ascension du Kangchenjunga, un alpiniste nommé Um Hong-gil (Hwang Jeong-min) sauve la vie de Park Moo-taek (Jung Woo ) et de son ami Park Jeong-bok (Kim In-kwon ), à la suite de quoi il les a avertis de ne plus jamais escalader de montagne. Quelques jours plus tard, lui et son équipe inaugurent un projet et a besoin de nouveaux membres. Un des membres de son équipage lui présente deux jeunes membres qui sont les deux inconscients qu'il a rencontrés auparavant. Il les refuse d'abord mais ceux-ci n'abandonnent pas et il n'a d'autre choix que de les accepter dans la prochaine aventure de l'équipe.Actors

In the late 16th century, the kingdom of Joseon is thrown into chaos by the threat of a Japanese invasion. The movie portrays an attempt in 1936 to summit the Eiger via the north face by two competing climbing teams. The more prominently featured pair of German climbers are Toni Kurz (Fürmann) and Andi Hinterstoisser (Lukas) from Berchtesgaden. After being refused leave from the German army (falsely claiming one of them is getting married and the other is to be Best Man), they quit their service in order to make the attempt. They are portrayed as being more interested in mountaineering than in the current politics of the time. The competing team of Austrians that eventually teams up with the German team are portrayed as hoping for a Nazi-led incorporation of Austria into Germany. Watching their summit attempt is their childhood friend Luise (Wokalek), now working for a German newspaper, who is accompanied by her cynical superior Mr. Arau (Tukur).

Engineer Aron Ralston (James Franco) drives to Utah's Canyonlands National Park for a day of canyoneering. On foot, he befriends hikers Kristi (Kate Mara) and Megan (Amber Tamblyn), and shows them an underground pool. After parting ways with the hikers, Ralston enters Blue John Canyon through a slot canyon. He slips and falls, and a boulder falls and traps his arm against the wall. Dr. Johannes Krafft (Gustav Diessl) and his bride Maria are spending their honeymoon mountain climbing in the Bernina Alps in southeast Switzerland.
