Synopsis

Rosy Ryan (Sarah Miles) is on a cliff high above the Atlantic Ocean in the town of Kirrary, an isolated village on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. A gust of wind takes her parasol over the cliff and down into the ocean, where it lands next to a currach containing Father Hugh Collins (Trevor Howard) and a mentally impaired man named Michael (John Mills) who retrieves the parasol. On the beach, Michael proudly reunites Rosy with her parasol and shows her an enormous, thrashing lobster that he has caught. The townspeople play a vicious game of Keep Away with Michael and the lobster until Father Collins shames them for their abuse.

Two North Korean agents, carrying Japanese passports bearing the names "Shinichi" and "Mayumi", plan to explode a Seoul-bound plane in mid-air. The writer Maurice Bendrix (Van Johnson) recalls his time in London toward the end of World War II, and following its conclusion, when he meets at a sherry party Sarah Miles (Deborah Kerr), the wife of his London acquaintance Henry Miles (Peter Cushing). They become lovers. During their affair his rooms on the square are bombed, she quits their relationship and he suffers from the loss and delayed shock from the bombing. It is after their break-up and the end of the war that Bendrix encounters Henry on the square, who invites him for a drink at his home especially as Sarah will not be there. He admits that he suspects the infidelity of his wife, has looked into a private investigator and approaches Bendrix to act on his behalf--but retracts the idea. Sarah returns home before Bendrix has left and she is curt in her exchange with him. Bendrix follows through with hiring a private detective agency. They come across information that the portrayal of Bendrix's housing situation being bombed did not disclose some facts about what happened to Bendrix and Sarah's wish that he be alive. Sarah had to resolve her infidelity with Bendrix, her prayer for Bendrix to be alive, her relationship with God and her marriage during discussions, sometimes extended, she had at all times of the day with a priest.

She is taken to the hospital mortuary, and told to identify his body. As Zooni cannot see any body there, she is quickly made aware of the sweater that Rehan was wearing which she knitted for him covered in blood and soot.

Ace marksmen Lee Kin-wah (Andy Lau) manages to prevent a potential slaughter due to his exceptional sharp-shooting skills.
