The Dialogues with Solzhenitsyn (Russian: Бесе́ды с Солжени́цыным) is a Russian television documentary by Russian filmmaker Alexander Sokurov on Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. The documentary shot in Solzhenitsyn’s home shows his everyday life and covers his reflections on Russian history and literature.

Synopsis

Ce documentaire est un portrait en deux parties autour de l’écrivain et dissident russe Alexandre Soljenitsyne, auteur de célèbres nouvelles sur la révolution et le système concentrationnaire russe, dont le fameux "Archipel du Goulag" et "la journée d’Ivan Denissovitch". L'univers intérieur d'Alexandre Soljenitsyne (né en 1918), prix Nobel de littérature en 1970, le dernier des grands écrivains engagés, à qui l'on doit l'universalité du mot « goulag ». Sokourov, avec une équipe réduite, fut le premier à être accueilli dans la maison de Soljenitsyne, près de Moscou, pour discuter avec l'écrivain et sa femme. Entretenant souvent la polémique, Soljenitsyne dialogue avec Sokourov sur la langue et la littérature russes, sur le folklore et le sens d'une œuvre de création, sur l'histoire et les temps modernes.

Chris & Don tells the story of a romance that began on the beaches of Santa Monica in the 1950s, when Christopher Isherwood at age 48 met Don Bachardy who then was eighteen years old. Isherwood, an established author with works such as The Berlin Stories, which helped inspire much of Cabaret, helped Bachardy discover and develop his affinity for drawing and painting as he became a renowned portrait painter during the second half of the 20th century to the present. The documentary includes insight from friends, including Liza Minnelli and John Boorman, who tell of the countless struggles the two faced as one of the first openly gay couples in Hollywood. Despite the age difference, the couple endured until Isherwood succumbed to prostate cancer in 1986.
