Add to a movie listThe Legend of Johnny Appleseed is an animated short musical segment from the 1948 film Melody Time. It is narrated by Dennis Day and is based on the American frontiersman John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed.
Synopsis
In 1806, Pittsburgh farmer Johnny Appleseed watches as pioneers depart out west and wishes he could follow. Johnny is inspired by an angel to abandon his farm, go west, and plant apple seeds everywhere he goes. The angel tells Johnny that he has all that he needs to go out West: a bag of seeds to plant, a Bible, and a pot that he can use for a hat. In his travels, Johnny befriends a skunk, and thereafter, all animals instinctively trust him. In the end, after walking hundreds of miles and planting apple trees all along the way, Johnny finally rests for the last time under a tree; his angel appears before him, and tells Johnny that it's time to go. Johnny gets up, scared at first upon realizing he's dead, but refuses to go to his final resting place, believing that his work is not done yet. However, the angel tells him that, where they're headed, they're low on apple trees, so Johnny picks up his seed bag and happily agrees to go with him.Actors

The short begins with the building of the Ark. Father Noah makes the plans of the ark and gives commands to its construction. Mickey fait un voyage en Arabie avec Minnie. Il arrive sur un chameau dans un souk. Ils font les touristes. Minnie prend plusieurs photos mais un habitant malhonnête décide de l'enlever et de s'enfuir à cheval. Mickey tente de le poursuivre mais son chameau a entre-temps décidé de se rafraîchir en buvant de la bière. Le ravisseur est un cheik qui voulait ajouter Minnie à son harem. Mickey entre dans la demeure du cheik. Après avoir éloigné Minnie des mains du cheik, sa garde empêche les deux souris de sortir. Mickey se retrouve face au cheik armé de deux pistolets qui, aveuglé par son turban, tire n'importe où même sur ses soldats armés de cimeterres. Ces derniers se réfugient dans des vases et des amphores de tous genres. Après avoir épuisé ses munitions et recouvré la vue, le cheik se met au lancer de couteaux qu'il a en grande quantité. Mickey parvient à lui renvoyer ceux enfichés dans un paravent derrière lequel il était caché et à s'enfuir dehors avec Minnie, cachée dans une jarre. Ils montent ensuite dans un minaret. Poursuivis par le cheik, ils courent sur les toits. La fuite n'est pas encore achevée car il faut redescendre. Mickey et Minnie tombent du haut du toit mais se rattrapent à un store. Le cheik n'a pas cette chance car Mickey a enroulé le store. De même les piques lancées du toit par les gardes arrivent sur le cheik. Mickey et Minnie peuvent alors s'enfuir sur le dos du chameau.

On Christmas morning, 1909, in a quaint Midwestern town, Jim Dear gives his wife Darling an American cocker spaniel puppy which she names Lady. Lady enjoys a happy life with the couple and two local neighborhood dogs, Jock, a Scottish terrier, and Trusty, a bloodhound. Meanwhile, across town, a stray mutt named Tramp lives on his own, dining on scraps from Tony's restaurant and protecting his friends from the local dogcatcher. One day, Lady is saddened after her owners begin treating her rather coldly. Jock and Trusty visit her and determine that their change in behavior is due to Darling expecting a baby. While Jock and Trusty try to explain what a baby is, Tramp interrupts the conversation and offers his own thoughts on the matter, making Jock and Trusty take an immediate dislike to the stray and order him out of the yard. As Tramp leaves, he reminds Lady that "when the baby moves in, the dog moves out.

Set in London, circa 1900, George and Mary Darling's preparations to attend a party are disrupted by the antics of their boys, John and Michael, acting out a story about Peter Pan and the pirates, told to them by their older sister, Wendy. Cinderella is the beloved child of a widowed aristocrat. Anxious for his daughter to have a mother's love, he remarries to Lady Tremaine, with two daughters: Drizella and Anastasia. After her father dies unexpectedly, Lady Tremaine is revealed to be a cruel and selfish woman, and Cinderella is abused and mistreated by her stepfamily, who take over the estate and ultimately reduce her to being a scullery maid in her own home. Seven-year-old Johnny is excited about what he believes to be a vacation at his grandmother's Georgia plantation with his parents, John Sr. and Sally. When they arrive at the plantation, he discovers that his parents will be living apart for a while, and he is to live in the country with his mother and grandmother while his father returns to Atlanta to continue his controversial editorship in the city's newspaper. Johnny, distraught because his father has never left him or his mother before, leaves that night under cover of darkness and sets off for Atlanta with only a bindle. As Johnny sneaks away from the plantation, he is attracted by the voice of Uncle Remus telling tales "in his old-timey way" of a character named Br'er Rabbit. Curious, Johnny hides behind a nearby tree to spy on the group of people sitting around the fire. By this time, word has gotten out that Johnny is gone and some plantation residents, who are sent out to find him, ask if Uncle Remus has seen the boy. Uncle Remus replies that he's with him. Shortly afterwards, he catches up with Johnny, who sits crying on a nearby log. He befriends the young boy and offers him some food for the journey, taking him back to his cabin.
