Synopsis

Jim Wallace, un jeune ingénieur, est engagé par Hammond, gestionnaire d'un domaine dans le Nord-Ouest, pour construire des canaux pour un camp de bûcherons, mais Donovan, le surintendant, ne l'aime pas et place de nombreux obstacles sur son chemin. Quand Hammond demande en mariage Virginia Coulson, propriétaire du domaine, elle refuse en faveur de Jim. Plus tard, lorsque Donovan est retrouvé assassiné, les soupçons portent sur Jim, qui est reconnu coupable et condamné à la prison à vie. Hammond obtient des preuves sur le meurtrier, Goofus, et prévoit de l'utiliser pour forcer Virginia à l'épouser. Goofus blesse Hammond et, voyant qu'il ne l'a pas tué, déclenche un incendie de forêt. Jim, qui s'est évadé de prison avec l'aide de son ami Buddy, sauve Virginia d'une cabane en flammes. Goofus avoue le meurtre et Jim est libéré.

Quand Dick Gilbert, qui est amoureux de Barbara Wesley, reçoit une promotion, les deux se fiancent. Morganson, un rival jaloux, convainc le directeur général que Dick ne devrait pas recevoir la promotion et, désespéré, Dick démissionne de son poste. Lors d'une fête donnée par Morganson, Dick entend une discussion sur la récente découverte d'or en Alaska et décide d'y aller. Morganson l'accompagne au pays de l'or. Un jour, Morganson crée une avalanche pour enterrer Dick. En s'échappant, Dick découvre un gisement d'or encore plus important et Ole, leur employé, lui parle de la trahison de Morganson. Barbara arrive, et suite à une confrontation entre les deux rivaux, Morganson est renversé d'une falaise et il meurt de ses blessures. Dick réussit à découvrir la mine et épouse Barbara.

Railroad supervisor Carl Buckley (Broderick Crawford) gets fired from his job. He persuades his seductive wife to pay a visit to an important railroad customer in order to try to get his job back. Mary Hamilton an heiress tires of fortune hunting men and takes her secretary Peggy to join a group of gypsies undercover. As the women head into the woods Sir Kenneth one of Mary's close male friends follows them dressed as a gypsy. Jack Hutton a wealthy landowner wants the gypsies off his land and has Sir Kenneth jailed. Hutton then seeks out Mary's camp, not knowing her true identity, and wants her thrown off the land as well but then catches her swimming in a moonlit pond. Hutton falls in love with Mary and Mary asks him to dine. When Hutton leaves a band of gypsies attacks Mary's wagon and tie her up. Jack then tries to rescue Mary but is beaten by the gypsies. Sir Kenneth has by then been released from jail and arrives with Peggy, the two of them are now in love. After they cut Mary loose, Sir Kenneth and Peggy head off to be married leaving Mary to care for Hutton. As Hutton recuperates Mary tells him the truth that she is an heiress and not a gypsy as she had led Hutton to believe. They are later married.
