Synopsis
Dans la même journée, Evelyn Todd, une charmante danseuse de revue, perd tout ses biens. D'abord son travail puis son appartement. Désespérée et à la rue, elle est secourue par Paul Harrington, un jeune homme de bonne famille qui l'embarque avec ses affaires dans son taxi. Elle tombe amoureuse de lui et les deux se marient. Elle comprend très vite qu'il n'est pas un chauffeur de taxi mais un riche homme d'affaires. Mais Evelyn est très mal reçue par la famille fortunée de Paul. Elle la suspecte de n'être qu'une croqueuse de diamants...Actors

Charles Bonnet (Hugh Griffith) is a highly skilled art forger who pretends to be an art collector. The film is set in Jennings County, Indiana in 1863. Jess Birdwell (Gary Cooper) is a farmer and patriarch of the Birdwell family whose Quaker religion conflicts with his love for the worldly enjoyments of music and horse racing. A traveller named Lockwood (Miles Mander) is caught in the snow and stays at the estate of Wuthering Heights, despite the cold behaviour of his aged host, Heathcliff (Laurence Olivier). Late that night, after being shown into an upstairs room that was once a bridal chamber, Lockwood is awakened by a cold draft and finds the window shutter flapping back and forth. Just as he is about to close it, he feels an icy hand clutching his and sees a woman outside calling, "Heathcliff, let me in! I'm out on the moors. It's Cathy!" Lockwood calls Heathcliff and tells him what he saw, whereupon the enraged Heathcliff throws him out of the room. As soon as Lockwood is gone, Heathcliff frantically calls out to Cathy, runs down the stairs and out of the house, into the snowstorm.

The story is set in 1482 Paris, France. Quasimodo is a deaf, half-blind, hunchbacked bell-ringer of the famous Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. His master Jehan, the evil brother of the saintly archdeacon Don Claudio, prevails upon the hunchback to kidnap the fair Esmeralda, a dancing gypsy girl (and the adopted daughter of Clopin, the king of the oppressed beggars of Paris' underworld).
