The Man Who Will Come (Italian: L'uomo che verrà) is an Italian film released in 2009. It was directed by Giorgio Diritti and written by Giorgio Diritti, Giovanni Galavotti and Tania Pedroni, starring Maya Sansa and Alba Rohrwacher. The film centers on a child growing up in northern Italy during World War II at the time of the Marzabotto massacre.

Synopsis

Décembre 1943. Le destin tragique d'une famille de paysans pauvres de la commune de Marzabotto, autour de Monte Sole, dans la région de Bologne. Les allers et retours d'une des filles, Beniamina, entre la ville et la campagne. La nièce de celle-ci devenue muette à la suite du décès de son petit frère… Puis, l'arrivée des troupes de la Wehrmacht dans les villages environnants. La résistance qui s'organise, des soldats allemands tués et les représailles organisées par les officiers de l'Armée allemande : les habitants de la commune sont massacrés au cimetière et à l'église. Martina survit ainsi que l'un de ses petits frères. Elle retrouve progressivement la parole en lui fredonnant une berceuse… Le film s'inspire d'un fait historique avéré : « l'extermination cruelle et d'une particulière férocité dans laquelle, en septembre 1944, furent anéanties environ 770 personnes, pour la plupart des femmes, des enfants et des vieux, connue sous le nom de massacre de Marzabotto.

In 2009 the young Eluana Englaro because of an incident remains in a coma. The girl is deemed incurable and therefore the parents opt to commit an act of euthanasia for their daughter; but in Italy it isn't a legal to do this particular process, for which the Church and politics are hurled ruthlessly against the parents of Eluana. In the mean time some episodes occur among acquaintances of the girl, a young woman decides to kill herself wanting to ingest a massive dose of heroin, but she is persuaded to stop by a nurse; while a member of the political government of Berlusconi refuses to align himself with the party and plans to vote against a bill that will make euthanasia illegal.

In 1968 Australia, Gail and Cynthia head into town for a talent contest and their young sister, Julie is forbidden to go because she has a child and is too young, until she bribes a fellow neighbour to take her into town. After the girls lose the talent contest, even with Julie coming in, Dave gives Gail her guitar back and as Dave is about to leave, Julie hands him a piece of paper, showing that the troops need singers for Vietnam. Soon, Dave goes to make a call and he says they have been accepted a spot to audition in Melbourne. Back at their place, Gail, Cynthia and Julie's mother tells him he can take them but Julie until Julie's father tells him not to worry about her. Advised by their grandmother, they meet up with their cousin Kay, who had been living in Melbourne for 10 years. She rejects the offer of joining them, but later changes her mind and meets up at their uncle's place. After days of training their moves, they are almost ready until Julie gives Cynthia a letter from her fiance that he is going to call it off. Despite that, they manage to audition very well and Kay comes up with the group's name, The Sapphires, after looking at Cynthia's engagement ring.
