Add to a movie listThe Phoney Civilization (Bulgarian: Криворазбраната цивилизация / Krivorazbranata tsivilizatsiya) is a satirical TV musical released in 1974 by the Bulgarian National Television, directed by Hacho Boyadzhiev, starring Georgi Partsalev, Georgi Kaloyanchev, Ruzha Delcheva, Nikola Anastasov, Lora Keranova and Zorka Dimitrova. The work is a musical adaptation based on the 1871 classical play by the Bulgarian playwright Dobri Voynikov. The music is composed by Decho Taralezhkov.
The production is in the scope of the programme called Television theatre, a popular programme which has been realized by the Bulgarian television during the 1970s and the 1980s. In a folklore manner, the musical ridicules the "fashionable" trends of behaviour and imitation of the foreign models. The accurately chosen cast, featuring some of the leading Bulgarian comic actors, the vivid scenograrhy as well as the memorable music turn the work into a classic example of the Bulgarian performing arts from those years.

Fred Graham and Lilli Vanessi, a divorced couple, meet at Fred's apartment to hear the score for the Cole Porter (Ron Randell) musical version of "The Taming of the Shrew". American showman Thadeus Spencer (Adolphe Menjou) is stuck without money in the Swiss Alps with his wife (Arline Judge), a girls' band, a comedy trio (The Ritz Brothers) and a recent harmonica-playing discovery (Borrah Minevitch) when the group learns that the Grand Palace Hotel in Ardetz, where they were to perform, has burned down. Upon seeing Greta Muller (Sonja Henie), an innkeeper's daughter, ice-skate, Spencer has a vision of her performing with a skating ballet that will make him millions. In prison, Larry Poole (Bing Crosby), a self-described troubadour, is approached by an inmate named Hart (John Gallaudet) who is on his way to the electric chair. Hart asks Larry to deliver a letter to a family called Smith near Middletown, New Jersey. After finding the family, which consists of a grandfather (Donald Meek) and a young girl named Patsy (Edith Fellows), Poole tells them that the letter holds a key, reveals that the condemned man had unintentionally killed Patsy's father and that he is giving the Smith family his old house and former hideout, the only thing he has to give as atonement.

La veille de la rentrée des classes, Mack et Brady, deux passionnés de surf, fêtent leurs 3 mois ensemble à l'endroit de leur première rencontre en regardant leur film préféré, le film qui les a réunis : Wet Side Story. Le jour de la rentrée, le couple réalise que ça ne marche pas entre eux au lycée et décide de rompre. Pendant ce temps, dans Wet Side Story, Lela, un des deux personnages principaux, se rend compte qu'elle ne veut plus continuer à jouer ce rôle et décide de rendre visite à Mack et Brady pour apprendre à devenir celle qu'elle veut être. Tanner, son petit ami, finit par la suivre. En arrivant, ils sont émerveillés par les progrès du présent et souhaitent y rester pour toujours. Mais hélas, cela est impossible car à la suite de leur départ du film, les autres personnages commencent à disparaître. Mack et Brady doivent alors leur dire qu'en réalité, ils ne sont pas réels mais juste des personnages de fiction d'un film des années 1960.
