The film was submitted to the 17st Fajr International Film Festival and won three Crystal Simorghs in the fields of best directing best directing, editing and best actress. The film looks a lot like The English Patient. Hatamikia`s ability to translate an American film scenario for an Iranian audience and make it look like the Iran-Iraq war points to the universality of war.
Synopsis
Three stubborn characters confront each other in a mine-riddled no-man's-land in the devastated South. Mahboobeh , a headstrong, grief-crazed woman who grew up in the area; Davoud, an embittered veteran focused to the point of insanity on his job clearing mines and Jomeh, an Afghan refugee whose own experience of tragedy gives him the empathy to communicate with his fellow outcasts.Actors

Saeed, is an Iran–Iraq war victim who has headed to Germany for his eyesight treatment, comes across his sister, Leila, who has lived in Cologne with her husband and son, Jonas for many years. Saeed gets his sight back after the surgery and he is coped with the new and strange atmosphere around him. Saeed is getting ready to come back to Iran but everything goes wrong. Further examinations show that he suffers from leukemia. His disease has apparently resulted from chemical gases used in the war. When Saeed’s sister finds out about his disease, she tries to prevent any situation which will cause him stress, as the doctors advised. But Saeed becomes very ill when he watches the video of Iran’s leader Ayatollah Khomeini’s funeral which was recorded by his brother in law. So, they take him to the hospital and he dies there while doing chemotherapy. This happens while Saeed’s wife and his newly born baby are coming to Germany to meet him. The last scene of the film shows that the family of Saeed’s sister is going back to Iran with his wife.

Two veterans of Iran-Iraq war, Abbas and his wartime commander Kazem are the main protagonists of the film. Abbas comes to Tehran to seek medical treatment for a war injury. Kazem wants to help Abbas as the doctor recommends that he should go abroad for the operation. However, it is almost New Year's Eve, and arranging a flight becomes difficult.
