The Secret Rapture is a 1993 British drama film directed by Howard Davies. The screenplay by David Hare is based on his 1988 play of the same title.
Synopsis
Estranged sisters Isobel and Marion are forced to reunite when their father dies and they must decide how to handle Katherine, their young, alcoholic, mentally unstable stepmother who has been left nothing but the rural home in which they were raised. Isobel and her lover Patrick own a small graphic design company that is struggling to stay afloat. Her sister suggests she and her born-again Christian husband Tom help them expand the business by finding investors and making Katherine a partner responsible for finding new business. Isobel has grave misgivings about the plan, but finally agrees to it when Marion convinces Patrick of its potential success. Before long, the strain of running the expanded business impacts Isobel's relationship with Patrick, who is becoming increasingly dependent upon her, while at the same time Katherine's tenuous hold on sanity begins to unravel.Actors

The story concerns Kay Hilliard (June Allyson), a former nightclub singer who discovers her husband Steven (Leslie Nielsen) is having an affair with showgirl Crystal Allen (Joan Collins). The film's subject matter deals with mysticism and reincarnation. Based upon a summary in a film publication, Nora O'Hallahan (Minter) comes to America only to find her mother dead. The Irish girl takes a position as the nurse for the Heath's child. Alice Heath (Minter) is killed and, after almost losing himself through his grief, the artist husband Roger (Holt) receives inspiration through Nora, who has grown marvelously like the dead wife through her love for the child. Nora's belief in the return of spirits is responsible for saving the child's life, while the artist feels that Alice has returned to him in the form of Nora, and he makes her his wife.

The film tells the story of a mixed group of Army nurses stationed in Bataan during World War II. At the beginning of the film, the head nurse, Lt. Mary Smith (Margaret Sullavan) begs her superior, Capt. Alice Marsh (Fay Bainter) for more nurses to help deal with the excessive workload, but instead of professional nurses, she is assigned a group of civilians from various backgrounds. They lack experience and require training and find it difficult to settle in. Pat Conlin (Ann Sothern) rebels against Lt. Smith's strict nature, but the group begin to reveal stories from their past and become better acquainted. They also meet a male officer, Lt. Holt (Allan Byron), and Pat becomes infatuated with him, leading to jealousy between her and Lt. Smith who refuses to explain why she is offended by Pat's attention to him. During an air-raid one of the volunteers, Sue West (Dorothy Morris), is separated from the group, and some of the women, including her sister Andra (Heather Angel) search for her. After three days she is found alive, having spent the time trapped in a hut with the corpses of several soldiers who were killed during the attack.
