Plusieurs jeunes femmes sont incarcérées à El Castillo de la Muerte, une prison pour femmes au milieu de l'océan. Cette prison n'est pas tout à fait habituelle car elle est tenue par la directrice Thelma Diaz, une directrice sadique qui, avec le gouverneur de la région, le dénommé Santos, abusent sexuellement des prisonnières, particulièrement de l'une d'entre elles, le numéro 99, Marie. Mais un événement inattendu vient bouleverser la prison : l'État vient de nommer un nouveau ministre de la justice qui ouvre une enquête sur les décès suspects à la prison. Il décide d'envoyer sur place une jeune inspectrice, Leonie, chargée de lui faire un rapport ; celle-ci bouleverse la vie de la prison par sa gentillesse et son humanité envers les prisonnières dont Mary. Cette dernière a été jetée au cachot lorsqu'elle a voulu avertir les gardiens de la mort de l'une d'entre elles, Nathalie, décédée d'une péritonite suite à son mauvais traitement. Diaz et le gouverneur décident alors tendre un piège à Leonie... Pendant ce temps, Mary, libérée par Leonie, s'évade avec une autre captive, Rosalie, et l'amant de cette dernière. Mais ils sont aussitôt traqués dans la jungle hostile.

Oliviero Rouvigny (Pistilli), a failed writer and an alcoholic, lives in a crumbling mansion with his wife Irina (Strindberg), who is scared of Oliviero's cat, Satan, that used to belong to his late mother. While walking home from work, Thana, a mute seamstress in New York City's Garment District, is raped at gunpoint in an alley by a mysterious, masked attacker. She survives and makes her way back to her apartment, where she encounters a burglar and is raped a second time. Thana, her name an allusion to Greek god of death Thanatos, hits this second assailant with a small sculpture then bludgeons him to death with an iron, and carries his body to the bathtub. She goes to work the next day, and after encountering working with an iron, watching her boss Albert rip a shirt off a mannequin, she goes into shock, which worries her co-workers. However, when she looks at the trashbin at her office, she decides to dismember the burglar's corpse and throw the parts away in various locations of the city.

Lors d'un braquage qui tourne mal, Valentin Tralande tue ses complices et les clients d'une banque. Seul avec un confortable butin, désœuvré, après un long périple, il se réfugie dans un hôtel de luxe, où son attitude étrange interpelle la direction qui par précaution prévient la police. Quand on demande à Tralande de descendre "pour une question de registre", il sort de sa chambre, tue l'un des policiers venu à sa rencontre, puis un second. il entre ensuite dans une chambre louée par Kristine et Pierre qui viennent de se rencontrer et de passer la nuit ensemble. Il prend le couple en otage et demande un véhicule pour fuir, commence alors une longue traque avec voitures de police, hélicoptère et gendarmerie qui finira par la mort de Valentin.
