Based on Maria von Trapp's memoir, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, the film is about a novice nun sent to care for the unruly children of a wealthy baron, who falls in love with and marries the young woman. Through her caring influence, the family becomes a famous singing group. When the baron is pressured to join Hitler's army, the family escapes to the United States where they establish themselves as singers.
The Trapp Family became one of the most successful German films of the 1950s, and was the inspiration for the even more fictionalized Broadway musical The Sound of Music and its highly successful 1965 film version. The film had one sequel, The Trapp Family in America (Die Trapp-Familie in Amerika).
Synopsis
At a convent in Austria in the 1930s, a spirited novice named Maria (Ruth Leuwerik) is sent by her mother superior to the estate of a widowed naval hero, Baron von Trapp (Hans Holt), to look after his seven unruly children. The baron is a stern disciplinarian and runs his household like a ship. When Maria arrives, she encourages the children to play games like other youngsters, and teaches them how to sing. When the baron discovers how Maria is ignoring his orders, he sends her back to the convent. Later, when he hears his children singing songs they've learned from Maria, his feelings for her change. Gradually, the baron falls in love with the young woman and proposes marriage.Actors

The von Trapps have left Austria and are now in the United States. But the Land of Unlimited Possibilities turns out to be anything but for our hapless heroes. Though the American public has demonstrated countless times, that they'll pay anything to hear German folk songs and other pop songs, the von Trapps on the verge of being penniless and suicidal, thanks to Father Wasner, who's determined to teach Americans to appreciate great church music ... no matter how much his "cultural mission" pushes the von Trapps to starvation. Only the insistence of paying patrons that they drop the holy roller music and the guffaws of the audience abandoning their shows finally convinces Maria, that it's time to start entertaining the paying public and give Palestrina a rest. Eventually they receive critical acclaim and a large following for their music. Later, They purchase a farm in Vermont and decide to remain in America.

Passau, mai 1957. La jeune artiste Franziska fait la connaissance de Stefan et tombe amoureuse. Après une première nuit ensemble, il doit aller travailler pour une agence de New York et Franziska reste seul à la maison. Elle se dispute avec son père à propos de Stefan, car elle veut se débrouiller seule. Elle s'installe à Berlin, où elle ouvre son propre petit atelier de jouets miniatures et vit tant bien que mal. Après un an, Stefan se présente de nouveau. Elle fait semblant de ne pas l'aimer et d'être libre et indépendante, mais à la fin confesse son amour. Il lui fait une proposition de mariage et elle accepte malgré les inquiétudes. Comme il doit quitter le pays le lendemain pour un travail, elle retourne à Passau - dans la villa de Stefan, qu'elle veut réparer dans quelques semaines, alors qu'elle attend Stefan à Passau. Il obtiendrait trois semaines de congé de son patron pour le mariage prévu, mais à la fin de la journée, il s'engage à suivre les troubles dans le Gran Chaco avant de retourner à Passau. Franziska reçoit du Dr Leitner, qui lui avait une fois proposé la mariage, une lettre d'au revoir de Stefan ; il ne reviendra pas à Passau avant le printemps ou l'été. Franziska annonce à son père et au Dr Leitner être enceinte de Stefan. Stefan apprend finalement dans un bar en Amérique du Sud qu'il est devenu le père d'un fils. Il rompt son contrat et retourne vers Franziska.

The young Count Georg Wolkersheim (Willy Fritsch) is sent to the Congress of Vienna to represent the interests of his country, Reuss-Schleiz-Greiz. Tensions arise between the count, his wife Melanie (Maria Holst), and their two chamberlains (Hans Moser and Theo Lingen), and when the four of them attend a court ball, Melanie leaves Georg, assumes the identity of a famous actress, and attracts the affections of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria (Fred Liewehr). Georg quits the ball and returns to his lodgings to wait for his wife. Meanwhile, the two servants plot to further inflame Georg's jealousy by posing as Ludwig to commission a portrait of Melanie from the famous artist Moritz Daffinger (Egon von Jordan). The next day, however, Georg and Daffinger expose the servants' ruse, Ludwig reveals to Melanie that he has discovered her true identity, and all is forgiven.

After numerous fruitless negotiations with the Allies about the independence of Austria, the Austrian prime minister prompts his fellow countrymen to shred their four-language identity cards, which have been issued by the Allies, thus sending a clear signal to the world. Thereupon, Austria is charged for breaking the "world peace" at the fictitious "world court". The implicated message is clear: in the same manner as Austria was, in Austria's eyes, falsely indicted for breaking the world peace (1914 and 1939), they are now being indicted again in 2000.
