Synopsis
Set amidst Chicago's swing music revival of the late 1990s, Oscar Novak (Perry), an aspiring architect and his business partner, Peter Steinberg (Platt), have just landed a career-making opportunity with a Chicago tycoon Charles Newman (McDermott) who has chosen them to compete for the design of a multimillion dollar cultural center. In a ploy for publicity, Newman has pitched Oscar and Peter in a neck-and-neck competition with their archrivals and former colleagues, the hugely successful (and equally ruthless) Decker and Strauss. In a comic twist Oscar is mistaken for a gay man when meeting with Charles Newman (made even more humorous by the fact that Peter is genuinely gay, with Oscar's comments leading Newman to think that Peter's the straight one). Under the mistaken impression that Oscar is homosexual, and therefore a safe companion for his girlfriend Amy (Campbell), he asks Oscar to keep an eye on her for him and make sure that she doesn't talk to his wife. Oscar falls for Amy virtually on sight, but she thinks he's gay. He is forced to maintain the charade to avoid getting into trouble with Newman, and losing the commission.Actors

A Miami area high school guidance counselor, Sam Lombardo (Dillon), is accused of rape by two female students, the wealthy and popular Kelly Van Ryan (Richards) and poor outcast Suzie Toller (Campbell), and hires lawyer Kenneth Bowden (Murray) to defend him. At trial, Suzie admits that she and Kelly had made everything up to get revenge on Lombardo: Suzie for him failing to bail her out of jail on a minor drug charge and Kelly for him having an affair with her mother, Sandra. Kelly's mother is humiliated by the scandal, and Lombardo and Bowden negotiate an $8.5 million settlement for defamation. In reality, however, Lombardo and the two girls were accomplices who used the trial as a way to get money from Kelly's wealthy family. To celebrate their success, the three of them have sex.

Alex Whitman (Matthew Perry) is an architect from New York City who is sent to Las Vegas to supervise the construction of a nightclub that his firm has been hired to build. Alex is a strait-laced WASP-ish type who, while enjoying a night on the town, meets Isabel Fuentes (Salma Hayek), a free-spirited Mexican-American photographer. In 1996, Jamie Randall (Jake Gyllenhaal) is fired from a Pittsburgh electronics store for having sex with his manager's girlfriend. His wealthy brother Josh (Josh Gad) announces at the dinner table at their parents' (George Segal and Jill Clayburgh) house that he has found Jamie a job as a pharmaceutical sales representative. Jamie tries to get access to Dr. Knight by hitting on his female employees until, exasperated, Dr. Knight unethically permits him to observe him at work, during which time he accidentally sees a disrobing patient, Maggie Murdock (Anne Hathaway), who suffers from early onset Parkinson's disease.
