The film chronicles the experience of a gay Swedish couple, Sven (Torkel Petersson) and Göran Skoogh (Gustaf Skarsgård) as they move into a new suburban neighborhood and adopt a child, beginning with their welcoming party. After meeting their new neighbors and settling into their jobs, they decide to adopt a child. Although they are married, no country is willing to let a gay couple adopt any of its children. After initially being turned down by the adoption agency, a Swedish orphan becomes available, whom they readily agree to adopt. However, a typographical error on the papers changed the child's age from "15" to "1.5". When their new son Patrik (Tom Ljungman) arrives, they are shocked to find him a troubled teenager with a criminal background.

Depuis le décès de sa femme et son licenciement, Ove se sent vieux et terriblement inutile. À longueur de journée, il erre dans sa maison comme une âme en peine. Uptight Mark (Mangan) and his good natured friend and follower Brian (Thomas) hope to save the planet from global warming (and maybe get into the Guinness Book of Records) by setting out on the world's first Carbon Neutral, Vegetarian, Organic expedition to the North Pole. Unfortunately they have no experience whatsoever and after shooting their cameraman after a misunderstanding, soon find themselves in a life and death race against a cocky gay (and Olympic) Norwegian team led by Alexander Skarsgård. Providing logistical support from the UK HQ (a caravan on a hill with big aerials) are Brian's wife, Sandra, and Mark's second best friend, Graham, a keen CB radio enthusiast. The documentary director, played by Helen Baxendale, does her best to make sure no one actually dies during the making of the documentary, but is way out of her depth.

Nige (Bret McKenzie) and Deano (Hamish Blake) are two childhood friends who live in Invercargill in the South Island of New Zealand. However, estrangement has since resulted, because Nige has stopped flatting with Deano over concerns about Nige's self-perceived emotional dependence on his friend, and moved in with a third friend, Gav (Maaka Pohatu). However, Nige inadvertently runs over a Norwegian backpacker with his unreliable Ford Laser and kills him, and enlists the assistance of Deano to conceal the body, although not without ambivalence from Deano due to his 'abandonment' issues after Nige terminated their earlier flatting cohabitation. The film also deals with the consequently bungled and incompetent police investigation into the comedy of errors that produced this chain of events, with humorous consequences.
