Synopsis
Isaac, immigré sans papiers africain, est capturé à la frontière par la police autrichienne. Après avoir mené des recherches sur son pays d'origine, deux policiers sont chargés de le reconduire au Ghana.Dans l'avion, un incident violent révèle la cruauté et le racisme de l'un des policiers.Arrivés au Ghana, les policiers, qui pensent que nul ne comprend leur langue, redoublent de racisme, d'arrogance et de supériorité vis-à-vis de leurs collègues africains qui décident alors de les retenir à Accra dans l'attente d'un visa.Sans passeport et avec peu d'argent, les deux policiers se retrouvent alors perdus dans la capitale africaine, contraints de veiller sur Isaac et de faire face à une culture locale qui leur est tout à fait étrangère.Actors

The movie starts on a morning in January 1945. The spectator is advised of the real events on which the movie is based. The first pictures show images of the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp, and afterwards the inside of barrack 20 – the “death block” – is shown. 500 Russian soldiers, who have refused to fight for Germany after being arrested, sleep on the floor. Then the wake-up-call rings. Having been put on a harsh diet, many get up only laboriously, while some are completely unable to do so any more.

The movie portrays an attempt in 1936 to summit the Eiger via the north face by two competing climbing teams. The more prominently featured pair of German climbers are Toni Kurz (Fürmann) and Andi Hinterstoisser (Lukas) from Berchtesgaden. After being refused leave from the German army (falsely claiming one of them is getting married and the other is to be Best Man), they quit their service in order to make the attempt. They are portrayed as being more interested in mountaineering than in the current politics of the time. The competing team of Austrians that eventually teams up with the German team are portrayed as hoping for a Nazi-led incorporation of Austria into Germany. Watching their summit attempt is their childhood friend Luise (Wokalek), now working for a German newspaper, who is accompanied by her cynical superior Mr. Arau (Tukur).

The translator Fariba Tabrizi (29, played by Jasmin Tabatabai) is living under the threat of the death penalty in her own country Iran after being revealed, by the vice squad, to be homosexual. With some support from a relative, Fariba is able to flee from her home country to Germany. When she is in the refugee detention centre at Frankfurt Airport her application for asylum is turned down. She lives hour by hour with the thought in mind that she may be deported. Her desperate prospects are dramatically improved by the suicide of a fellow-inmate also from Iran she assumes his identity and, as Siamak Mustafai, and using his temporary permit of sojourn, is re-located to the provinces of Swabia.
